My wife's 10 year old PC hard drive seems to have died a death in the past week and whilst we're going to try and reclaim the data stored on there we're going to look to replace the PC itself.

I'm therefore after recommendations for a laptop PC, brand new with a budget in mind of £350-400. It would have a fairly easy life - used for work reports / spreadsheets, internet browsing, and I might look for an entry level dj mixer programme as I want to put some of my vast 90's / 2000's dance music collection into some mixes (for my own pleasure more than playing out to paying punters!).

Any recommendations for models / companies to consider / approximate memory & processor specifications that I should expect would be great. I'm no PC expert so could conceiveably get something from PC World etc but I'd be interested to hear from some of the IT Manager's on here with PC recommendations first. 😉

I had similar requirements, bar the DJ but, and bought a Dell. It arrived very quickly and so far I'm impressed with it.

I'd second Lunge having had a bunch of Dell laptops over the years, also look at Lenovo.

You need to think about what sort of screen size you want/need - will the laptop be carried around ? kept in one place ? After that, a faster processor/more memory is probably the most important thing - hard drives and memory can always be upgraded, but you are stuck with the processor for the life of the machine.
