OK, baby Scarf is 1 week old now so it's time to start thinking about getting him out on the bike ๐Ÿ™‚ I've got an old commuter here that I'm going to do up with full mudguards etc. and have a few questions:

1) What age can you get the wee one in a seat on the bike?
2) Any recommendations for seats? Priorities in order are security, comfort, weight, price.

Ta!

Get one of those which fits on the top tube. You can see what they see, and you can chat to them

Hi,

We've used a Hamax Sleepy for my son and now my daugther and have been really pleased. Before changing jobs I use to take them to nursery (2-3 miles) twice a week.

With regards to age; it's more about their development, they must be able to support their own head. I'd recommend doing a couple of test rides up and down the street. Be prepared for a nervous Mummy and remember NOT to throw your leg over the saddle!

Happy riding.

Mark

Hi,

It'll be a while before he'll be in a kiddie seat. Recommended ages are around 9 months to a year; it's important that they can support their neck suficiently well to sit up and absorb cornering forces etc...

Having said that, I couldn't wait for a year to get out on the bike with little Miss Dingup so bought a trailer from Halfords. I mounted her MaxiCosy car set in to the trailer using some of the straps built in and a few old windsurf uphaul ropes and have used it all summer (age 3 months on) with no problems whatsoever. Cornering forces are a lot less than the car and there is enough support in the seat for that!

Have recently bought a Co Pilot Limo as I don't like the idea of the trailer on dark roads but she is still doing at least one way to or from Nursery by bike every day.

HTH,

Stan
