[#3321845]

ok, i need to add a jacket to my wardrobe, i mean a smart jacket... a suit jacket!

Im quite a young 43 yr old, reasonably trendy but all my clothes are mostly from fat face, h&m etc.

I have a pair of dark fitted Gstar jeans that I only wear for best i.e. nights and meals out, just want some advice on a smart shirt, jacket to wear with these on nights out with the GF without me looking too old?

What colours/shirts to go for

never ever a jacket with jeans.

Ask the question "would Clarkson wear this?" if the answer is yes as it is in this case than you must not ๐Ÿ™„

Get a suit man. Maybe a moleskin or something if you like less formal wear. Jacket and jeans is all a bit Rah if you ask me.

Don't listen to TeeJ...he knows about as much about fashion as Jeremy Clarkson! ๐Ÿ˜ก

If you are 43 years of age and asking a bunch of self-professed t-shirt wearing achingly-anti-establishment bike riders what to wear, you deserve to be made to follow their guidance.

Does your mum still dress you?

The jackets in M&S are bloody good these days, you could do worse than pop into a big branch wearing your jeans and try a load of them on.

Jeans and jacket is fine, but really only with a good shirt (white is best) or nice T-shirt (no meaningless logos etc)/jumper.

I have a dark grey unlined Margaret Howell and light grey, pin striped YSL which both look about as smart as it's safe to go when you work in new media.

TK Maxx was my favoured hunting ground for suit jacket bargains when I worked in offices.

PS. Ignore what the hipsters are wearing, they are fools.

The duality of man, right there.

I always find this useful as a reference point - especially when anyone mentions new media.

What jacket is irrelevant if you wear trainers and have superfluous pockets and logos on the jeans?

Apologies for my absence, chaps and chapesses. Have been a little busy with the nice people at the Oakley store here in Boston. They have relieved me of some pecuniary funds. 8)

Anyway, on the topic of jacket and jeans. If said jeans are pantalons de Nimes, then the answer is, quite simply, no. It's in the Manifesto! You may wear any number of things atop pantalons de Nimes, but a "sports" jacket, as our American cousins would term it, is a big fat screaming pile of "NO". To see why, simply look at Clarkson, as already described by others.

If, however, your jeans are more of this line; ]
http://www.orvis.co.uk/store/product.aspx?pf_id=34HX&dir_id=466&group_id=481&cat_id=7432&subcat_id=7433 (Orvis KHPs, as worn by yours truly today) then I would say a decent tweed jacket would work rather well. I've been known to sport my hacking jacket with these. Along with an open knecked shirt and some decent boots.

"Just one gear on my fixie bike, got a plus one here on my gig tonight"

I've seen this video at least 15 times and it still makes me laugh.

To the op. When in doubt, look at Jimmy for inspiration.
