ok, i need to add a jacket to my wardrobe, i mean a smart jacket... a suit jacket!
Im quite a young 43 yr old, reasonably trendy but all my clothes are mostly from fat face, h&m etc.
I have a pair of dark fitted Gstar jeans that I only wear for best i.e. nights and meals out, just want some advice on a smart shirt, jacket to wear with these on nights out with the GF without me looking too old?
What colours/shirts to go for
Harris tweed if brownish jeans, Donegal tweed if black / grey
Kettle on, what biscuits would you like CFH?
sorry they are dark blue denim!
Are they skinny jeans?
Not a bad look that!
not skinny no, more of a tapered leg
have a look at uniqlo stuff
jeremy clarkson style eh!

What moisturiser you using this winter?
never ever a jacket with jeans.
Ask the question "would Clarkson wear this?" if the answer is yes as it is in this case than you must not ๐
I've just eaten a soreen malt loaf and a mug of tea, I'm in for the long haul me...
have a look at uniqlo stuff
nice site that!
reasonably trendy
You either used to be or only thought you were.
right, think i need a decent informal suit then!
never ever a jacket with jeans.
+1
Get a suit man. Maybe a moleskin or something if you like less formal wear. Jacket and jeans is all a bit Rah if you ask me.
wear what you like, if your GF thinks you look OK should you care what TJ thinks ๐
should you care what TJ thinks
Should anyone?
Internet approval is everything, without it you are nothing.....
we can't all look like Hollywood stars Deadly
If you are 43 years of age and asking a bunch of self-professed t-shirt wearing achingly-anti-establishment bike riders what to wear, you deserve to be made to follow their guidance.
Does your mum still dress you?
The jackets in M&S are bloody good these days, you could do worse than pop into a big branch wearing your jeans and try a load of them on.
Jeans and jacket is fine, but really only with a good shirt (white is best) or nice T-shirt (no meaningless logos etc)/jumper.
I have a dark grey unlined Margaret Howell and light grey, pin striped YSL which both look about as smart as it's safe to go when you work in new media.
TK Maxx was my favoured hunting ground for suit jacket bargains when I worked in offices.
PS. Ignore what the hipsters are wearing, they are fools.
icebreaker pureplus 'jetter' of 'aspiring hood'.. very classy, supa practical and no one has them ๐

The duality of man, right there.
You know what a hipster is tootall?
You know what a hipster is tootall?
Who cares? He knows what duality means.
I always find this useful as a reference point - especially when anyone mentions new media.
geoffj - love it!
"Saying I work in media when I'm really on the dole..." - never truer words spoken. ๐
Please rename this thread "Calling all middle aged tragedies." ๐
Will you be wearing it with an asymmetrical haircut?
What jacket is irrelevant if you wear trainers and have superfluous pockets and logos on the jeans?
reasonably trendy but all my clothes are mostly from fat face, h&m etc

Somebody have a word. Please.

๐ย It's funny because it's true, Marge.
People like some of those in that vid incite even the most mild-mannered to violence...
I agree with TJ. ๐
But that's a dressing gown! And a cosy one too!
Apologies for my absence, chaps and chapesses. Have been a little busy with the nice people at the Oakley store here in Boston. They have relieved me of some pecuniary funds. 8)
Anyway, on the topic of jacket and jeans. If said jeans are pantalons de Nimes, then the answer is, quite simply, no. It's in the Manifesto! You may wear any number of things atop pantalons de Nimes, but a "sports" jacket, as our American cousins would term it, is a big fat screaming pile of "NO". To see why, simply look at Clarkson, as already described by others.
If, however, your jeans are more of this line; ]

I've been known to sport my hacking jacket with these. Along with an open knecked shirt and some decent boots.
