I've decided it's this:
I love so many things about this video I don't even know where to start. To begin with it actually show the band, thank fruk, and what's more it's directed by David Fincher. Shyet!
The first thing you notice is how scuffed up the footage looks. The stories I heard at the time were that it was shot on film, as basically all music videos were then, and that they literally took the rolls out of the camera and kicked them around on the floor before processing them. A ridiculously risky strategy considering how valuable the footage would be but the overall look is spellbinding! I think it's also worth noting that this was released 14 years ago, long before the kind of effects seen here were available at a push of a button in the editing suite.
The next thing is how you can't see anybody's faces. Well, that prob helps! 😉 In fact all the members of the band are pretty much shot from the same angle- eg Pez Lanchantin has a weird-and-alien-like profile, Billy Howerdel is always shot from behind, Maynard James Keehan is always seen from the front (but not actually visible, if you know what I mean) andso on.
The final thing is the editing. There is something about the way that the foot hits the effects pedal, or the way that bottleneck slide is picked up, that just looks so right. It's hard to describe, but it just somehow works. And for that, this is my fave video.
Madonna Ray of light sprang to mind. Probably wish I never typed that but can't think of much else at the moment.
Frugballs, I remember that Radiohead video blowing me away when it came out..
The two things that I like the most about that video are how awesome Johnny Greenwood (briefly) looks and how everyone decides to '**** it' and lie down at the end!!! Plus Thom Yorke, well, er, freakin out...
Cibo Matto - Sugar Water
For balance, here is a video David Fincher did for Justin Timberlake. it's a right load of old guff:
I'm torn, either cathy dennis, touch me.
What can I say I was 16, she had red hair wore a catsuit and could often be found sweating.
The three things I look for in a woman.
Or this, test one.
Wish I could say something clever and arty but I just like it.
Shrekballs I had no idea David Fincher was around this early! At least he was was showing enough directoral talent to mostly feature some random old lady rather than smug yoga-face Sting:
That Cibo Matto video is Michel Gondry, right? I always that was the inspiration for this, Metronomy 'She Wants':
I had been listening to Armtone's Time Machine for about 6 months on the bike/car/wherever before I got the full AV experience. So it was nice to view the video to it all and knowing what came next. Here it is. Big screen and headphones a must:
OOOOooch Chip, that took me back!!!! Nice one!! 🙂 So, er, tickets to Raindance anyone??!? 😉
Although it was more for the time of it as the quality of the video.
Always have time for dEUS 😉
@martinxyz, a full hour is a bit of an investment hey? Baws, if it's worth it I'll give it a go..
Yep,and it's not really a music video (well, not what you were expecting) Probably not worth watching at this hour. The music might not suit either!
Baws, just watched that 'Sugar Water' video again. It's soooooo good...
6,500,000 views and counting. I'm pretty sure that at least 500,000 of these aren't me...

This video used to spaz me out sooo much when I was a kid! It made feel so..gooey!!! Luckily now I've grown up and I'm loads more wiser and I'm much more harder as a person. Er...
Of course they they broke up. Haha, oh.
Also this one which for some reason I can no longer find on YouTube.
this without a shadow of doubt 😉
That Bjork robot one.
Destination Calabria is always worth a watch
Not my favourite, but defiantly not forgotten once seen.
Always on MTV when I was on business in Germany 10 year back.

Guns N' Roses - November Rain:
Runaway for me. It's more of a music film than a music video, but I love the album it's from, and I love the way most of the tracks are reworked slightly for the film, which is just a nice bit of effort they didn't have to put in.

Or Eric Prydz - Call On Me. Not linking to either here 🙂
Yes, Bjork all is full of love. Michel Gondry too (spelling right?)

Classic.
I was scrolling down to the end to add Sabotage. 😀
Hello, by Lionel Ritchie. The emotion conveyed when working the clay sculpture makes the hairs on my neck stand up every time. Such a powerful performance.
Absolute genius....
Oooh, hard to pick one!
(so 2, for now)
These are the first two that come to mind.
Rabbit In Your Headlights is fab. Real shocker when I first saw it.
