I made a guitar from scratch.
Apart from using a router and a template to get the basic shape it was mostly handtools. Spokeshave, files and sandpaper.
It started as a few pieces of wood, alder and maple.

And a bit of shaping:

And Finally:

Wow, that's amazing. Beautiful sculpting on the neck. 👌
Yep that neck is nice it's the hardest bit to get right. I used to bandsaw blanks for a mate who would shape them for what seemed like forever.
Having bought a chunk of Mr Bezos' latest mind control hardware, the Echo Show 15, I was buggered if I was going to fork out £29.99 for a stand for it, requiring the echo to be unscrewed to be able to turn it from landscape to portrait.
So, a chunk of wood later and tadaaaa. And yes it needs finishing etc etc.
If anyone has bought one of these devices, I've used the wall mount stand it comes with to mount the echo - just screwed it to the wood. So no extra bits needed apart from the wood and two long screws to fix the 3 pieces together.
Made a framed, ledged and braced door in Oak.
Shortly after the 1st photo was taken my prop failed and the door fell over 😂

I particularly like the chamfering detail on that door.
If I win the euromillions, I think I will employ kayak full time to make nice stuff for me!
Kayak is a right bastard sometimes. I need to make a front gate for the pathway and another for the driveway and then he goes and posts a picture like that. Git.
😉
😂🙏👊
Very nice Kayak. I made the same style door for my parents cellar 20 years back(single brace top and bottom.
About 5 or so layers of oil based paint(in brown) and it still looks as good as new. Gets a rub down and a fresh coat every 2 or3 years.
I know its oak, but no reason you shouldnt paint it, and it really adds to the longevity of it.
Haunched tenons, very proper 😀
Eek. Just placed order for just over £1000 of custom cut birch ply from plydirect. Despite the £100 delivery charge from London to Devon, was still nearly 50% cheaper than the local options.
hope I got my numbers right…

3 sheets then at current prices. 😉
What you making?

Please hand yourself in to the police for crimes against quarter-sawn Oak
😂
Christmas decorations, strictly speaking I only designed them, my paper cutter did the hard work
Finally getting around to finishing this:

full depth drawers all the way up.
quarter-sawn Oak
😆 😆 Which bit ? Looks mostly tangentially sawn to me.
If you get my rift 😉
Love those decorations @<span class="bbp-author-name">ebygomm</span>
Arent thinking of selling any are you ?, my sisters a big Lab fan. Had one who died of old age, then got another, and has added to that with a third in puppy format just a couple of months ago. I know she would be thrilled to hang a couple of those on her tree.
Love those decorations - Yeah, they are the dogs!
DIY boot drier..may as well make use of all the zwift fans lying around!

Rather rapid and sloppy build, but was jsut a quick 'bash together'.
I used wood glue AND my electric nail (well, brad/framing pin) gun. The nail gun REALLY helped bring it together quickly!
Worked brilliantly on my damp booties!
DrP
Clever! 😊👌

Ah, the Adam Savage technique!
Nice dryer though, potential use for all the odd bits of pipe I have lying about (used to get 50cm free with every roll of pig matting).
Introducing the paint masturbator:
I've got a bunch of really old hobby paints that are very settled and congealed so I decided to freshen them up for use, and that required some serious shaking. Clearly a powered solution was required. So I went on Thingiverse, found a nice paint pot holder thing that was designed to fit on a reciprocating saw and printed out a couple. But while it worked, it was very noisy and my saw doesn't like being run at low speed.
Inspiration struck and I turned to the massage gun. So, back to thingiverse... Nothing that worked though. So I went looking for the perfect massage gun fixing, and there is was- Anon69420's masterpiece, his adaptor to fit a fleshlight. Version 2 so it'd had the kinks worked out.
So, printed out my newfound masturbation aid and it works a charm! But how to adapt it? Fusion 360? Maybe the milling machine? Nope, hot glue and a couple of wood screws, and then since the wood screw idea didn't work at all, more hot glue.
So now I can satisfy 2 paints at once, until they're ready to splash their contents into my waiting funnel. And the only real cost is that now my thingiverse search history is cursed.

And you also made a clever innuendo, hat.
Nice paint shaker!
Well..after my (frankly) embarrasing effort with the tracksaw up there, I decided to watch a few youtube tutorials and attempt to redeem myself!
Quick effort, take 2..:

It made a new home for itself!!!
The saw MAY benefit from a 48t blade... if i start working on nicer ply perhaps..

Very nice DrP. Though have you a router(No? go buy one) A round over cutter along all the edges not only softens the look, but prevents the sharp edges from getting caught and splintering. Especially around the handles.
A lid keeps the box from filling with dust. you can easily fit surface mounted hinges, with something like 4x12 or 4x16mm screws being more than adequate.
I loved your boot dryer too, that was a great and practical idea. But was wondering if there's any risk of the blower overheating. Any probs found on that front, or is it drying long before the build up of heat becomes a problem
It's just a fan in the boot drier .. no heating element...
So no issues getting too warm there.
And the plan for the box was to pop a top cover on it .slice all round the sides just below the handles, and stick some little hinges in so the whole top opens...
Ran out of time and energy (still got damn covid)
DrP
Ahh yes I see. Mind and fit the lid before putting in the hinge. A cranked one is easy to overlay on then just screw it in place. One of the probs with hinging is there always seems to be a little movement. Believe me its worse when its a cabinet for a customer you've spent 8 weeks making 😆
Or you could deliberately put a bit of slop in it. As its basically just a dust cover.
Actually TBH i hate hinging things. Doors of all sizes, lids, boxes . it can be a right royal pain in the bum when it doesnt line up.
And thanks for the clarification on the blower. That certainly clears it up 🙂
.
I love seeing folk taking the time making stuff. One of my philosophical pleasures in life is marveling at the ingenuity of people to solve a problem.
.
Keep safe now.
And I hope you've had your vaccine 😛
Cheers..triple jabbed... bugger!!
Actually... rather than hinge it, I think i'll fix 4 toggle latch clamps to it, so the WHOLE lid comes off...
MAybe... I dunno!!
Off to bed now..knackered!
DrP
Nice clock 🙂
Seen a lot ,obviously, but not one with a spoke stand. usually its hung or set into a piece of wood. Care to do a reverse shot to show how you've done it 😀
I was going to be posting a picture of my broken Boulder with stretched good between the halves but when trying to position it in the garden I tried and am now in hospital with for broken ribs, a snapped finger with the end de gloved from the last joint down and am waiting on the results of a ct scan so sorry but the photos will have to wait
Jebus Nick..
I mean... WTAF..
Heal well ol' boy..
DrP
Bloody hell WCA, hope youre ok, well not obviously.
De gloved yikes., possibly end up losing that bit, hope you dont though 🙁
Jebus can we have photos of the de glove.
Do the ambulance paramedics have a key for your place.
Good luck
Jebus can we have photos of the de glove.
Not sure I want to see his circumcised finger
.
In fact he could be showing us anything 😯 😯
A bathboard made from left over scaffold board, complete with angled recess for iPad/iPhone and supporting wedge at the back to stop it going anywhere
@dyna-ti Reverse shot exposing shonkiness
I have a tektro disc that would work better on as the holes are smaller. I'm going to thread the spoke through and reverse the nipple at the other end and I think it'll be about right.
@chrisyork no pic showing. I've had the same idea as you, having forked out 25 quid for the world's thinnest shittest bathboard for the missus. So I'd love to see yours.
Also @dyna-ti following what you said to DrP above, I was thinking of getting a router this year. For projects like a bathboard, so cutting out slots in things to a given depth or right through. But also to cut around a template and make some shapes (reindeer, Xmas tree) out of ply. And I guess to mitre corners for boxes n stuff.
Bit confused about all the various types of router and bases - any pointers?
This was after they pushed the finger tip back on. Can you see the join?

Flippin Lord jebus! 😳
Holy ****. Heal soon!
Yeah, looks nice but it is the four busted ribs and internal swelling that really hurts. Oramorph is helping a bit but still not comfortable
WTf
OUCH! Heal fast
You know when a legendary sportsperson retires (or dies) their team sometimes retires their shirt/rider/car number so it is associated with that person forever?
Can we please ensure that STW assigned WorldClassAccident that username for all of eternity. No one will ever, ever, own a user name like he does.
