Veterinary surgeon. Farming's doing ok at the mo (weak pound helps) and I guess people will always want to get their pets healthy but there's certainly less money around. Expecting this year to be a hard one...

Firefighter - business as usual. Few more RTCs due to weather... well, due to bad driving, but they always blame the road! 🙂

Account Director for a Financial Service Company specialising in the Credit Industry.

Things are good and bad - some sectors are doing well and within the market there is now a lot of focus on retaining and managing existing customers as opposed to a few years back when focus was on acquisition of customers. But things are bad on the traditional Mortgage and Loans side of things as no lending is really going on.

Teacher of A level ICT at a sixth form college. We've gone from 800 students to 2000 in the last ten years, there are loads of older staff who will be retiring soon so my post should be pretty secure and a lack of local 'first job' prospects should see us with more demand (you get more cash for an EMA + child benefits than you do on the dole).

I survey buildings for asbestos at the moment. Business seems consistent due to our key client being in the public sector but am expecting to see the market turn down in about 6 months.
I really should start looking at retraining but can't really afford to take the pay cut, double edge sword so it seems.

Civil Servant for huge Government Financial department.

I was a Risk analyst until 2nd Jan when my job ceased to exist, I then started with a new department on 5th Jan as an Investigator. Today, my second day in my new job, I'm at home because of man-flu, not the greatest start to my career in my new department 🙁 Even working for a Government Department isn't safe these days. We merged with another Govt department in 2005 & have lost 12,500 jobs in the last 3 years & there are plans to lose another 12,500 jobs in the next 3 years.

I design gardens for a living which is a) a luxury item that gets cut when times are hard, b) is linked to the housing market and c) is often funded by borrowing.... not an ideal place to be right now!

IT desktop support in a small photographic products manufacturing firm. perhaps surprisingly, we're not doing too badly... probably cos most of our sales are export, and the exchange rate is doing us a massive favour. so is the price of silver.

I'm a freelance video editor, things are a little quiet but I'm ticking over at the moment and managing to pay the bills. It is quiet but that could all change with a phone call, after all people watch more telly when they can't afford to go out.

S_Works - Surely you don't need to re-touch pictures of the radiant beauty that is Amy Winehouse?

Celebs pay for my bikes and bits too. And a 20-1 bet on the winner of Big Brother bought my Fox 36 forks last summer. Very satisfying.

freelance sound, video and lighting engineer

mostly corporate so felt the pinch a bit late last year, this year is looking busy though. Just having to work a bit harder, no flexibility to cherry pick work. lots of christmas party type stuff got canceled though and budgets are cutting back across the board on conferences. glad i don't do rock and roll, they are feeling it worse.

S-Works - Haha, Camden's dealers are taking food off your plate!

I'm not betting on Celeb BB, my spider senses aren't tingling about anyone.

I did a photoshop course last year which was given by a woman who does the same job as you - I was amazed at what can be achieved by those with the skills.

Freelance Real Estate Analyst. I crunch numbers for companies that build, buy, sell or occupy very large/expensive properties like shopping malls, City of London office buildings etc.

Not many people around that do what I do so I've always got a choice of work. Where feasibility analysis work is drying up (d'uh) I've now got a new line in analysing "distressed projects" for people...I feel like a pawn broker 🙂

TBH, and unlike our esteemed leader, when the sunny times shined I made my hay and got our finances/house/assets in good order so even if things go woefully for the next few years* we wont be in any trouble.

Talking to someone about 2011 and £30bn of bullet payments falling due on commerical real estate around then...could be a long war this one! 🙂

Run (with my Partner) a telemarketing company specializing in Financial services...Dull, but business is steady. Managed to get a 30% increase in price out of my largest customer last year, which couldn't have been timed better TBH.
