V reg 1.4 Rover 25, 94K miles, last service was at 78K so due one NOW. This service will entail a cambelt change.
MOT is due beginning of June.
I'm planning on buying an estate (01/02? passat 1.9 tdi) before August (2 trips to alps in that month and driving both times with 2 other people in the car)
A few small spots of rust on front door panels only (as far as I've seen so far), sunroof is leaking, drivers seat right foam support has collapsed. few other bits and bobs but nothing too bad that comes to mind.
Never had a problem starting (cable into starter motor sometimes is loose but a wobble of that and its fine, happened 4 times in 3 years?) , no mechanical problems for me so far.
Just got a puncture from a screw and other 3 tyres could do with being changed. I was told the punctured tyre can not be fixed, screw is in the tread, more than 1" in from edge, but gone in at an angle?
Do I scrap? How much would I get for it?
Try and sell? For how much?
If I can't fix the puncture what do I do tyre wise? replace all 4 or just 1?

Get down your local scrappy, find 4 matching steelies off another Rover 25 with OK tread on the tyres. Or buy some part worns for £20-25 each. You need tyres on any car, and as yours are worn out or punctured, you've pretty much got no choice and this is the cheapest option that should at least see you through an MOT and last until your new car in August(ish).
Has your engine had a new head gasket at all due to the dreaded overheating problems the K series suffers from? If it has already had it done, then no worries. Probably do an oil change, possibly change the cambelt, and keep the car in OK enough condition to sell it on for say £500 or so when you get your new car.
If it has not already had to have a new head gasket at all due to aforementioned K series issues, then just keep driving the car as is. Don't bother servicing it, you're driving a time bomb as it is (IT WILL GO POP soon enough!), so you might as well not spend any money on it, especially if you're buying a new car in a couple of months!
Yep I'm getting told all the time about the headgasket - hasn't gone *yet* and I've owned it since 38k. so unless it got done before then? not sure where I've put the service history.

thing is with the service and the cambelt - that could cost quite a bit I'd have thought so is it really worth me putting it through the service?

Sell it if you want rid. Probably get 500 quid for it.
Get a set of part worn tires. Roughly 15 - 20 quid a corner.
Take it to a fire station. We cut them up for rtc training.
Wouldn't be much training. Instead of getting all that expensive equipment out, all you would need to do is go to the kitchen, open the drawer and get the can opener out.
mine was donated to a friend who is now turning it into a dune buggy.....rad.
I just scrapped my 200 and bought a nice Astra, parts for Rovers are hard to find already and will get harder to find as no one has to make them anymore.
To be honest, if you view the car as disposable, don't bother with the cambelt! They could go on for ages. I heard of someone that hadn't had their motorhome cambelt changed as they didn't realise it was every 5 years as well as a mileage limit. It was 13 years old! (when it snapped...miles from home...abroad)
Just had my van done as it definitely isn't considered disposable!
New second hand tyre and try and get a years ticket on it. If it passes, great you'll get a few more £££ selling but either way I would get shot of it asap.
