Although, years ago when I was an Operator on nights used to play Yee-Ah on the BBC Micro for a few hours to relieve the boredom. Never out of work time though.

Metal gear solid on the PS1. i could complete it in 8 hours by time i stopped playing it!

And all the Gran Turismo series. I to spent too much time doing the real time endurance races (losing on the last lap in a 24Hr race is as close to crying as a grown man should come, except when your bike gets scratched).

I did one of those and haven't picked it up since - great series but the endurance races were mind numbing!

Brought up on Doom for pc, a friends dad was a computer geek so he had 3 pcs networked round the house. Back in the day this was awesome, many nights dissapeared and it was amazing how much you sweat when concentrating.
Then came counter strike (followed by cs-source), the big attraction was playing online with your mates. I play CoD 4 once a week now online and thats enough.

At uni Goldeneye on the N64 and sensible soccer on the pc. Subsequently I lost periods of my life to Champ Man and then Counter strike and then COD4. I haven't played many games recently but have a good chess game on my phone for when i'm on stand by. Must be getting old.

PS1 - Vigilante 8 and Gran Turismo
N64 - Mario 64, Mario Kart and Goldeneye

Counter Strike takes the win for me though. Started playing it at Beta 7.1 sometime in 2000 I think, and I still play it to this day (although very rarely) I'd hate to think how many hours Ive spent playing that.

Over the years I've wasted countless weeks playing.....

Mario Kart (SNES)
Wave Race (N64)
Gran Tourismo 1 and 2 (PS1)
Need For Speed Underground (PS2)
Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
Championship Manager (various versions) (PC)
SSX Tricky (PS2)

But now I honestly can't be bothered with computer games, even though I asked for an Xbox360 for my birthday last year

Elite on C64
Rogue & Nethack on various *nix boxes
Doom, Doom II on linux
Quake, Quake II on linux

Quake II co-op kept us sane during the long boring nights on Y2K duty, waiting for the phone to ring.

Ooh where to start....

Champ Manager
Half Life and Half Life 2
Counterstrike in all its guises (used to be clanned that played in a couple of leagues)
Civ
Sim City
Lineage2
Age Of Conan
Dawn Of War series (and now wasting loads of time on DoW2)
X3 Reunion and then X3 Terran Conflict
RF Online
Planetside (my favourite MMO of all time, shame it got let down by a lack of support from SOE)
Everquest2

I'm also a games tester in my spare time, I get the opportunity through contacts to take part in a lot of alpha/closed beta testing every so often.
