Loving that A6!
One day I'll have enough wonga to own an RS6...
Not quite matching but close 320i Touring for the wife, and 520d Touring for me. Paid extra for indicators just so I can not use them.
2x rover 25 and a gsxr 1100,
ZOKES - I'm considering a freelander2 myself, any more opinions of it?
Also, what kind of mpg do you get, i've heard they can be a lot thirstier than their claimed consumption? Cheers.
Well - that depends on what you want it for...
We seem to get 35-40 mpg (rough conversion from km/100L over here), but I don' drive in the city much. Off road you could double its consumption on some surfaces, but then that's normal.
As I said in my post, I find it amazingly car-like on-road, and surprisingly capable off road. It's comfy and handles well. From a practicality aspect, it could do with a bigger boot - the suspension pillars take up a surprising amount of space, though with the fold-flat seats down it's huge.
I'd had no problems what-so-ever with it for the first 25k, but just yesterday I noticed a whirring / whining from the rear, and it looks like the culprit is the rear diff. Thankfully mine's under warranty, and having just had it serviced, I'm unsure whether it is a case of the diff not being put back together correctly after being serviced, or wear. The former not being the car's fault, the latter obviously is.... The internet seems to indicate that I'm not alone in experiencing rear diff issues though.
So up until last week, I'd have unequivocally recommended it. Now, I'm not sure if Land Rover's legendary reliability issues haven't been solved after all - 25,000 km isn't far for a car to travel - things like diffs shouldn't be failing.
try and get one with parking sensors front and rear, we only have rear and front too would have been useful - biggest downside to car is its a long beast when parking
Learning how to drive also solves this issue

Nowt special.
I've just (yesterday) sold my Celica, a much better car to drive than most probably think. It was 12 yrs old with 125k though so probably going to get maintainance heavy in the near future.
Now it's a (yawn) diesel avensis estate- its a better biking car though!
Oh go on then.
1995 Mercedes Benz E-320 Coupe (W142 series), lovely 3 litre V6, 155,000 miles (and it's for sale so you can do the next 100K miles if you want? No reason not to, it's built like a Panzer).
TT Mk2 as an every-day driver. Nice and surprisingly good fun to drive but should've got a Golf GTI really, if only to avoid the 'fashion accessory' image.
Toyota Rav 4, 110,000 miles and counting. Wife's car/general utility + camping vehicle.
So now you know.
General workhorse is a Focus estate 1.6tdci great on fuel.
Mrs has a little MR2 which is only used in the summer (last year it did a grand total of 80 miles!)
Here's my old clunker of a Renault 4. she's as scruffy as anything but if I started getting her tidied up I'd never use it properly.
I take it everywhere and use it in the winter as a four wheeled wheelbarrow, its generally full of logs, springer spaniel and wet children!
Brlliant car, this was taken last year on our trip through France.

2012 Ford Fiesta

2005 Yamaha YZf-R1
2000 Yamaha YZF-R1.

To my mind the Renault 4 is pretty much the car perfected

So were we!
We went with a load of the Renault 4 forum chaps and chapesses!
My Four is ex police and is very battered, but I love her and the chassis is sound! It has the bigger 1.1 engine but still has drum brakes! 😕
Currently:
Freelander 2 HSE
Focus RS mk2
Westfield Cosworth
A classic green Corrado Storm here too. Mines got 135k on the clock, its in pretty decent nick for the age. I love the sound of the VR engine at 4000rpm+. Not fuel efficient, but I can easily get 2 people and 2 bikes + kit in there! Perfect car!
mine - 52reg 1.4tdci fiesta
wife- 56 reg 1.6tdci fiesta
she has the better one with more toys, they are both waaay to small with our 2 year old but we get by, we have to as we have debt and cant budge 'yet'.
some of you lot must be stupid, mad or loaded! 😉
i dream of the day when i have a tidy car 😉
Renault 4- sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo rare now 🙁
My first ever car was a Citroen Dyane6. Awesome flimsy thing 8)
XC90: bit thirsty but otherwise faultless as a family car
Wifes 52-plate Vectra: written off by yours truely earlier this year but bought back from insurance company as salvage. Drives perfectly but now worth approximately 30p
1972 Fiat 500L: been in the family since 1974. Fully restored 2 years ago. Pure comedy to drive - especially the lack of self-centreing steering.
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso
Peugeot 308 cc
Fiat 500 for Katie to learn in
Great big Volvo XC90 7 seater. Second one we've had, total of 8yrs now and I'm bored of them. Super-practical for kids and dogs but never invested in a towbar so bikes on the roof gets tired as the kids get older and their bikes bigger.
Only about 30mpg too so going next year in favour a BMW 5 Series Touring....that'll do about 54mpg I think.
Main reason I got another 4x4 was my wife loves the high seat position. It doesnt feel relaxing to drive to me, I cant wait to get back to a normal height car. And I love BMWs.
But I learnt to drive in a 2CV.
You learn to preserve momentum in one of them, I used to scare the crepe out of people on roundabouts by using the slow down a long way before the roundabout (i.e., without needing to brake) then accelerate as hard as you can into the gap method.
You can do the same thing in modern cars of course, but it makes you look like a hooligan.

320d wagon. First car I've had that I actually love in the same way I do my bikes.
XC90 - had it for 10 years. Fantastic load lugger for our family of 5 plus dog/bikes/boats/etc. Only gets used for longer trips so does about 7k/year.
Golf Bluemotion Match - our second Golf (had a TDi GT before this one). Very nice and quite grown up compared to the '07 GT plus it does 60mpg which is very nice. Gets used for 95% of all the running around we do.
Got one of these for playing around on too 🙂

ZOKES - I'm considering a freelander2 myself, any more opinions of it?
Report from the garage is that the rear differential needs replacing. That's after 25,000 km, a reasonable number of which haven't been on tarmac. Which just about fits in with the "Land Rovers made out of cheese" thoughts I was warned about when thinking about buying one two years ago.
So no, I won't recommend one unless you're buying it new / nearly new, and have a warranty with it. The internet seems to indicate I'm not alone with very early diff failure on the FL2. Pity - apart from a very expensive and major part that probably shouldn't fail within the whole lifetime of a vehicle, it's been great 😕
Got a touran tdi dsg. Had so many lovely cars over the years that I just got bored of them and no longer aspire to own anything nice these days. Just want it to get me about and not cost too much to run.
Wife is thinking of getting a new Golf GTD.
A few of my favourites over the years--

Or perhaps this...
Not mine (but was the same - red 5 door 309 GTi) - pic ripped off the interweb
Interestingly, the Abarth is probably the closest recent car that I have driven, to the original 80s / 90s hatches. Very similar feel to the 205 / 309 GTis. Weight and power are almost identical. Good pull from low revs. Handling is very direct.
A refreshing move away from the more power / more weight formula of the last 20 years 😛
