what Klunk said - for most people saying they intend to do something replaces doing it in their subconscious and the desire to achieve it is reduced. If I do what I'm planning to do I'll be sure and let you all know 🙂

One or two more than five but here goes::::

1) Decide once and for all whether to retire from work when I reach 65
in March. (cant really afford to to be honest)
2) Pay off my credit card.(its already been cut up and my pension pot
will pay off the balance.)
3) Complete my 'bucket list'
4) Spend more time in the gym
5) Do more than the one sportive I've signed up for.
6) Have a real mountain bike holiday somewhere sunny.
7) Try to listen to my body so that I could possibly stop a third
heart attack. (I think four stents is quite enough). 😉

- Climb at least one 4000m peak in the alps

- Cycle across France from the channel to the med

- Get better at bouldering and go to Font to shred my fingertips to pieces

- Do my first audax and sportive

- Invite more people round for dinner (I love the cooking / eating / drinking / talking combo)

- Volunteer more to encourage more people to start cycling and mountaineering

- Meet a great guy - know any in their 40's who aren't too bitter or twisted / mad? 😉

move to Vancouver would be nice but knowing my luck the Cascadia fault would unzip a week after I got there

Quiet you! This is a little too close to the bone. Was in a relationship this time last year which bit the dust, in part due to (and via a slightly convoluted set of circumstances) the NZ CHristchurch earthquake. This time round my love interest has moved to Vancouver. No sooner had she arrived than they experienced a mild tremor, sufficient to shake their building slightly and scare the bejesus out of her... In short, I don't wish 'girls moving to other countries' and 'earthquakes' to become any more a feature of my relationships than they already have! 😕

All this talk of announcing intentions then not achieving them is also slightly close to the bone, I hope I've not jinxed myself! 8)

Ahem ... sorry to mislead, but my final point was a gentle piss-take of Bustaspoke's comment above about wanting to find a single woman who wasn't bitter or mad ... I'm afraid it wasn't a serious resolution for 2012!

Sue W, no need to let me down gently, 2011 taught me all I need to know about being dumped 😉

1 Get better at actually sticking to the lists I write.

Ride more (ride further afield regularly, ride more natural trails).
Eat & drink less.
Lose a bit of weight (the above two might be related).
Get back into 'serious' painting/photography.
(slightly further off the radar) Both me and Zoe find teaching jobs in a more 'bike (MTB) friendly' part of the country.

slainte 😳 rob

Sit down in front of a computer more. Become a big hitter. Submit to peer pressure and become a representative member of the STW community:

Ride my bikes less, pollute more, drink too much, get fat, become a lousy lover and get ditched by Madame, remove the insulation from my house and install central heating, stop doing anything with junior, buy an impractical but flashy car... .

1> Ride more
2> Drink less
3> Eat less
4> Get rid of any toys not used in last year
5> Spend less time on STW

* 5 not likely to happen

My aim is to ride less.. cos I spent 2011 taking one step forward and two steps back by overworking a knee injury..

This horrendous task will be made infinitely easier as we'll be welcoming baby number 2 to the world in Feb.. and Mrs Yunki now has a half decent bike.. so I imagine that I will be spending some pleasant days bimbling around the countryside with my happy family..

Less is definitely going to be more for me this year

1. Try to beat the 4,000 miles of cycling done this year
2. Try to get slimmer - lost 1.5 stone this year
3. Try to find room to put all my clutter away in a very small flat
4. Try to stop smoking - again!
5. Try not to sound too desperate about finding a man - after all I've managed without one for many years.

Note all the above begin with "try" - I don't expect success in everything or indeed anything.

As we're roughly half way through the year now, I thought it would be interesting to revisit this. I said:

Less alcohol - fail
More sex - pass
Learn to meditate - not yet
Eat better - pass
Ride more - fail

How's everyone else done?
