Can't seem to get rid of them. I've tried show/hide magnifier but that seems to be something different - I get a big magnifying bar. These circles are hard to get rid of and I dunno what I pressed to put them there. They also get saved on the doc as I've closed and re-opened.

No that just brings up the big magnifying bar aka 'the magnifier'...

You should be able to select and delete existing ones.
