I’m sorry, no really i am.

Suspend all disbelief and seek out the album by LMFAO, Sorry for Party Rocking. If for once in your life you just stick it on and play it so loud until the fish jump out of your iddy biddy fish tank and the wife walks out you will have reached the zenith, nee the epitome of dance pop..

I give you..

LMFAO, Sooooorrrry for Partyyyyyy Rooooockin

The sum of Awe headed my way and smacked me square on the forehead

Thanks for playing, thanks to the OP for askin’
I love this sort of thing, free thinking (some of us) and just gettin’ in the groove..
I’d like to post Ace of Base’s rendition of “Cruel Summer” because it’s .. well ..Ace, but as the sayin’ goes you can’t beat the original (sometimes you can)

So, thank you and good night.. Bananrama’s “Cruel Summer”

Teenage Kicks by the Undertones.
It's just the perfect pop single.

Even McCartney says God Only Knows is the most perfect pop song ever recorded!
Having said that, there are dozens, nay hundreds of great pop songs out there, ABBA have made a significant contribution just by themselves, then there’s the Beatles...
However, I’ve loved this song since I first heard it forty-six years ago, and it’s still stands out as a fantastic piece of pop music:

And don’t even think of comparing it with the shitty cover by the Happy bloody Mondays!

Great thread. Teenage Kicks? Wasn't that the one John Peel played twice in a row? Had a line from it on his gravestone.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1578522/John-Peel-gets-Teenage-Kicks-epitaph.html

I'd agree with Come on Eileen by Dexy's

Or American Pie by Don McLean except it's possiblt too long for a pop single.

Or for me, probably not a popular choice but one that was playing all the time during a teenage summer - Lindisfarne - Run For Home. From the days when pop music was only on TV once a week.

T'pau Heart & Soul is one of my all time faves, Ian Brown's F.E.A.R has been an earworm all week after hearing it on the radio on Monday, but I think it would have to a track off Fleetwood Mac's 40-year old Rumours album, that is brimming with amazing tunes...

An all time classic, made famous by the guitar riff that has been used by F1 coverage for decades, but the rest of the tune is great too IMO.
