Going up for one of the kid's uni open day, which should take most of the Saturday, but free evenings and most of Sunday before coming back. Staying in centre. Not been there for 25 years, so any top tips for eating/drinking places and perhaps some sites (she's into arty things) appreciated. Cheers
Museum of modern art / dean Gallery - its a nice walk from the town centre up the river
Believe it or not the open top bus tour can be fun and you can get on and off in differnt places.
For eating and drinking I would head down to leith 'cos that is were a lot of the good stuff is nowadays. Ship on the Shore for seafood.
If the weather is good a wander through Dean village then head towards Stockbridge loads of places to eat, not far from art galleries or if she likes retro Stockbride is full of charity shops

Bread meat bread is a fantastic burger place , the sweet potato fries with bacon and ma0le syrup are delicious
Following on from the posts above, the Water of Leith path through Dean Village is a nice walk that leads to a back entrance to the Modern Art galleries. I prefer the more traditional galleries in the city centre but art is a matter of personal taste. As regards food and drink there are loads of good places. If you’re more specific about what you line we can narrow it down a bit. But in general go to the Bow Bar for good beers and take your wife to the Dome, it’s stunning.
that museum of scotland is good.
theres some decent wee bars in leith (and some where you might expect to meet sickboy or spud).

If you like Mexican food then definitely check out El Cartel. Think they have a couple of places around town and the food is superb

Nice wee walk up Calton Hill, for a view over the centre, and some interesting monuments.
And Arthur's Seat for a longer walk, if you have good weather.

Yes, yes, and yes. The food is excellent and the frozen margharitas are absolutely lethal (but very tasty).
Worth noting that they don't take bookings, so either turn up early, or get your name down on the waiting list, go to the pub across the road and wait for your name to be called.

If you like curry, and don't want to pay much for it either, the Mosque Kitchen is absolutely amazing - I stay in Edinburgh with work most weeks and I'm hooked on this place.....don't let the cheap prices and basic decor put you off - food is amazing!

I agree with what velocipede said. But go to the ACTUAL mosque kitchen! not the upstarts that called themselves the mosque kitchen (linked, and which is on the main street) and go to the one that is actually connected to the mosque. The one on the main street is done by people trying to capitalise on the success of the mosque kitchen by calling themselves "mosque kitchen" as a business name ... near to the kitchen run by the mosque.
If you want similar food to the mosque kitchen in a nicer environ, then head to "10 under 10 in dehli".
These places are all within 30 seconds of each other.

Just be aware there is a big independence march this afternoon, going from Holyrood, up the Mile, George IV Bridge and then into the Meadows. Goes quite near the uni.
Ten to Ten in Delhi is great. Also look at Tanjore (South Clerk Street) for Indian and Maki & Ramen for oriental food.
Across from Bristo Square are two similar restaurants Ting Thai Caravan and Saboteur (Vietnamese). Both very popular, but Saboteur a little less so and has tables further apart than the Thai place. Food is excellent and well priced. El Cartel (mentioned earlier) is on the same block too.
