[#1257787]

Just tried searching on Google for a wedding photographer and can't work out how to choose between them all.

So can anyone recommend me one? We don't (obviously) want to spend too much; will want a DVD; and would like nice pictures.

Whats your budget? whilst its good not to spend too much, remember, you will want to cherish these for the rest of your married lives - and passing them onto your kids etc maybe? Nice venue, good party, fantastic - all the memories from that fade eventually. Good photos will stay with you for life. So choose very carefully, and dont just base it on price alone.

I do a bit of portrait photography on the side, and have been known to do the odd wedding here and there. I rate the following form personal experience with them:

Rob Sanderson - www.curvephotography.co.uk (Liverpool based, but shoots all over) - jolly good chap - did a friends wedding a year or so ago, and know him via interweb photo chat rooms.

http://www.misterphill.com/photography/ - Phil Allen - again know him via interweb (flickr) and seems jolly decent - interesting blog and nice images

Both the above do london weddings and imho are really good at what they do.

Also http://elizaclairephotography.com/ is pretty nice woman - based in Kent and shoots London venues alot

I would choose a photographer on how their work makes me feel (do I like it, will my wife like it etc) and not just on cost - beware the craiglsit/gumtree photographer (although there are some good ones on there).

and if you are interested, my work (and not touting for business at all - the guys I have linked too are way more talented than me): www.photographyonthehill.co.uk/blog and there is some wedding stuff on the site (just remove /blog)

hoipe thats useful

@doc_blues The photos need to come in at around £500. It may be something we'll cherish for the rest of our lives but that applies to everything at the wedding not just the photos, and we've already maxed out our budget. I think Rob Sanderson and Phil Allen will be too expensive (can't see their prices) and I can see Eliza Claire is.

The photos on your site look great. But you've not got any prices on there so I can't see how much you'll be. We think we'd need someone for about 4 hours for the registry office (Marylebone) and the start of the reception (Soho) if you (or anyone else) wants to tout for our business 🙂

Thats absolutely fair enough - in the process of musing over weddings myself and the costs of everything are enough to put you off doing it! I know Rob is in the region of £1500 for a day (morning through to 1st dance).

I tend to like to tailor things atm for each gig - its easier that way and I am doing alot of family portrait stuff. Will drop you a line off the site and we can talk if you like - about what I can offer.

have a look at kdhphoto.co.uk - based in Sussex but I think they cover London. Pricewise they're not going to be the cheapest but they really are very, very good as their website will show. I've seen them in action a few times at weddings other than our own and wouldn't hesitate in recommended them. A really talented pair of photographers...

EDIT - just seen your budget and I'm not sure what their basic package is but it might be more than that (we had an album and it was a fair chunk more than £500).

There's no substitute for having a proper look through portfolios and a good chat with the photographers for finding the best 'fit' between what you're after and how the photograph works best. when we researched for our wedding we met a fair few who were obviously chancing their arm with asking for lots of money without the portfolio to back it up - the problem with wedding photography is that every man and his dog has a digital SLR and thinks they're capable whereas it's a bugger of a thing to do properly (in my experience).

(Doc_blues - like your blog btw)

£1500. wtf.

I dunno what our weding photographer cost but when you consider the photos are probably going to be in a box under the stairs or in the attic for the rest of your life, thats probably a bit steep.

sl2000

drop me an email at mbonnesATgmailDOTcom

My Housemate is a professional wedding photographer, been doing it for a few years now...

£1500 is top dollar... My Housemate will quote you bespoke, but unless you wanted every possibly conceivable extra and about a million prints, he's likely to come in way under £1500...
