Evening all, I was hoping the collective brain of STW might be able to come up with some good ideas for evening entertainment at my wedding next year. We want something fun, which will get people involved, can be done indoors. We have so far come up with a casino or magician but if anybody else has had something or can think of something good then please share. We just don't our day to be like every other wedding. Our theme is english country, think teapots/cups, tweed suits etc if this helps. We are up for most things but don't have a huge budget as we have spent most of it on the Honeymoon!! Approx £500. Cheers in advance.
Indoor bouncy castle. We had one (outdoor) and everyone loved it.
We had a folk band with traditional instruments (we had a hurdy-gurdy - yay!) and they taught everyone traditional dances like what you see on 'The Tudors' and the like.
I'll never forget a couple of the dances where we were surrounded by our friends and relatives all happy and smiling and wishing us luck.
Ben
went to a wedding with a folk band, was actually lot more fun than i thought even though i had to be pressganged into dancing by a weirdy beardy
We had a magician at our wedding, but we arranged for him to entertain the tables before the speeches, then he went out into the foyer when the speeches were on to do some magic tricks for the kids, then came back into the main hall before the food was served up! Worked a little to well as some of the adults went out during the speeches to see the magician! 🙂
Barn dance.
Sounds weird but it will get everyone involved without fail.
I used to work at a hotel which regularly held weddings, most of which had a disco as their evening entertainment. We scoffed at the idea of a barn dance but it looked like a right laugh.
We had a Highland wedding so had a ceilidh at ours which had exactly them same effect.
Bingo.
Ale, lots of it. that always makes parties go well. 😀
My brother hired 4 session musicians for his do. They knew of each other but had never played together. Well nobody was too impressed except me my bro and my cousin who really appreciated theirs skills (they were real realy good) but the general crowd weren't that appreciative of led Zep Hendrix or ACDC songs....
forced kareokie?
Get everyone to read the Richie McCoy Racing thread!
yep, we did the barn dance thing. Much better than "Dave's Dodgy Disco". I also wanted a sumo wrestling ring and big padded suits by the wife wasn't having any of it. I still think that would have been cool.
My mate had a ceilidh at his wedding - good idea, better than a shit DJ playing **** robbie williams tunes.
I only remember hi fiving a girl in the face then I passed out not long after, class wedding.
at our wedding we had a casino indoors with giant party games and a bouncy castle outdoors. i hate disco's at weddings, so there was no way i was having one at mine. heck, we even had a BBQ. 😀
if considering a bouncy castle the venue may insist that someone stays with the castle at all times. a health and safety thing. the company from which the castle was hired provided said person
it was quite cheap to hire
Me singing and dancing.
Never fails to amuse 🙂
Had a ceilidh at our wedding and at lots of others too, you can find bands down south too but need to be careful as some are a bit ropey (just like back home too!).
If not then a Barn dance would be as good I'm sure.
Best thing about them is they get everyone of all ages up and dancing and interacting, esp if you get the band to do some of the progressive dances.
Would prob squeeze into your budget too.
We looked into a barn dance but decided it all looked a bit naff so went for a live band/disco combo.
Ohh and fireworks are great too. We were in the fortunate position to have our reception in my wife's mum & dad's huge garden so I just bought a huuuuge single light firework and bunged it in their field 🙂

's what the bridesmaids are for, innit?
We had a Casino, worked a treat, everybody loved it!
Naked Twister - you could have the heats at various points during the day with the grand final later in the evening.....Quite cheap to organise too
How about adapting childrens party games.
You know pin the tail on the ...... ( animal of choice),
Musical chairs,
pass the huge parcel/s etc.
at our wedding we had:
outdoor:
bouncy castle, giant genga, giant chess (that wasn't very popular) giant connect-4
indoor:
casino games
the bouncy castle did an excellent job of keeping the children amused
there was no disco
we merely took a laptop, hifi amp and speakers
My sister had a kaliegh band play at hers, it was ace. No crappy disco and every one gets to dance with everyone else. Lots of swinging ladies around and stuff, everyone joined in, young and old. Come to think of it a friend did the same thing too and it was great, had pie and peas in takeaway trays for dinner too.
See if you can get a few canisters of nitous oxide, unscrew them and leave them in the corners of the room
get some big screen tellies showing the pink panther films (with peter sellars)
How did this thread get resurrected 5 months after it fizzled out??
What was ReallyOlderGit searching for to find it???
Acid in the table wine?
tug of war was quite a laugh at my mates wedding last summer.
My bruv had a caricature artist at his wedding, was really great fun.
She walked around mingling with guests doing free sketches, brilliant fun and got everyone laughing.
So Larry have you had the wedding what did you go for?
I was thinking HE'D resurrected it with what event/shenanigans he went for!?
They married, had 12 kids and are divorced already.
😉
