Lovely!
Clear up something for us: apparently Ti watches scratch more easily than steel. And I found with a Ti ring that it would mark other items, like sinks etc.
Have you experienced either of those?

Ello (still waiting for lunch break at a conference). The Pelagos is grade 2 Ti, which is supposed to be not as good as grade 5 (I.e. Omega and RLX titanium [lol]). I've worn my Tudor for months at a time, including fieldwork. It's not minty but it's fine, very happy with it. Do you want me to go find a sink to have a Mohs-off?!

Being as Gaidong started the blue theme thing a little while ago, time to unveil the new recruit.  Truth be told I preferred the green version, but this was too good of a deal to pass on.

Yeah, was on the fence when I ordered but it’s much nicer in the metal.  Love it.

I reckon the blue will get more wear than the green would have.

Has anyone got one of those cheap Timex field watches?

I'm looking for something that i can wear most days without worrying about it, for not much £s

I had one and passed it onto someone on here as it never got worn. Nothing special, but it was reliable, ledgible and kept good time being a quartz. Mine was quite small but that's OK on my weedy wrists.

Genuinely nothing to get excited about, but I don't mean that in a bad way.

Lorus are pretty good for the money - Seiko's budget range. I used to have a titanium version, it was fine.

The advantage of Timex is Indiglo but now that everyone carries a phone all the time it's less of an advantage.

Tasked the Mrs with bringing one of these from NYC later this month. Quite like a few of the Timex/Tod collabs.

Meh, if you want big, brash and fugly (and green), it's got to be the OG Mudmaster (note, not Mudman)

See page 102 of this very thread... (about halfway down)

I ended up with a bargain Lorus precisely because I didn't want a Timex. Best £20 I spent last year TBH...

On the RER home from airport. Gopping with sweat drippage and gasping for a cuppa. Normal oris service resumes.

Thanks - the Lorus isn't £20 any more!

Those Bertucci (sp?) field watches that were getting rave reviews about 1-2years ago are now 2-3x the price. I'm sure the basic one was £35ish back then

Yeah, Ti doesn’t play well with glazed ceramics, and once you’ve marked something, it’ll never come off! I’ve got a Ti ring on my right thumb, and it’s scratched to buggery, almost matt, but I’m not fussed, and it has marked a few things, but nothing important. I’m not sure I’d consider a Ti-cased watch, personally, unless I got lucky on the lottery and could afford the Ti version of the Omega Seamaster Ultradeep, which has an unusual case with no spring bars, the strap fits into a slot, so more security with a NATO or ZULU.

Nice, had an Oris 65 years back with a SW200 movement. Comfy, easy to read and accurate. Good brand Oris.

Liking it a lot.

As you say, comfy & easy to read.  Accuracy is being tested over the next 48 hours but the 400 movement seems to have a good reputation.

I'm off to the Isle of Man in a couple of weeks and will take a picture of me wearing a different G Shock everyday*.

*A lie, it'll be the same one.

I’ve gathered a few watches over the years, Seiko BFK & Sportura, both mean something to me and will keep both.
However, my younger brother and this thread have raised a yearning for a automatic tool / field (that might not be right!) type watch.
Explorer, Ranger type are very nice, but just don’t have the budget, and unlikely to in the foreseeable future so I’m looking for suggestions of similar. I do like Seiko, and have also looked at Laco Augsburg & Aachen.
Quite happy to keep squirrelling away a couple quid here and there to get something I’d like to keep, but there’s a limit there somewhere.
So, fire away with the suggestions.

Smiths Commando or Everest. They're in the Explorer/Ranger sort of vein though a bit small for some tastes. If you're after something a bit larger then Hamilton could have something to suit, there are loads of them.
If you're not really sure, pick up a homage from Ali to try out the size and general look - Pagani to San Martin depending on your budget. You can get a decently reviewed Ranger-a-Like from Pagani for £70ish.

Steinhart seem to be fairly well regarded with their Sub homages. They have the Ocean 39 Adventure that looks very close to the Explorer/Ranger. 440EUR, a step up from Seiko prices but not necessarily going to break the bank.

Steinhart Ocean 39

I also have the same Smiths Commander pictured above. I’ve got quite a good collection of expensive watches but the Smiths is currently my most regularly worn watch. It’s also the newest so that might be why….but I do like kt. Mine is now on a nice brown strap which I prefer.

Jezza, what’s your max budget?

Also have a look at Nite watches.  Haven’t got one (yet) but do like the look of them.

Explorer turned up last week; I'm trying it on a canvas strap this week.
The bracelet is probably the best I've had on any watch, but I've come to the conclusion I don't love wearing watches on bracelets.

nicko74.  Can’t wait for my 50th as I’ve promised myself an Explorer.  Your photo has just prompted me to try the canvas I bought recently on the 556

Stupid G-Shock question - I saw a bloke in the pub the other day with a bright yellow G-Shock. He was telling his mates how wonderful it was 'cos it was solar. It wasn't huge like some GShocks - it looked like a normal largish watch.  The strap was yellow and black. The face was roundish but angled like a octagon or something.

Any ideas which model it was?
