@johnners Ok, so had another go, had to take separate pics to get the damn phone to focus properly on each watch.

First up samurai and the monster. The monster is my favourite watch, had it a very long time now.
Some seiko watches

My seiko auto relay, bought with my very first full time grown up wage. Also had this a very long time.
Seiko

Random one this, my father bought this and it is lovely, but he didn’t know that the battery is non replaceable, so bit of a bugger that now the battery is flat.
Swatch

Last two are a random skeleton watch my father bought me many many years ago (he likes them) and the knackered looking metal watch is my grandfather’s from WWII, he claimed he swapped some smokes for it from an American soldier whilst in India.

What is a shame now is the smaller watches just don’t suit my large wrists, so I never wear them, in an ideal world I’d sell the skeleton - but I’m not sure it’s worth anything any more.

Not pictured is my garmin Vivoactive 4 which is up from sale.

@walowiz Nice. I know what you mean about the Monster, my Gen 1 is my favourite. Yours definitely looks like it's been out a lot, it's good to see a watch that's been worn to within an inch of its life!
I like that auto-relay a lot, the case and bezel puts me in mind of a Casio I bought in the early 90s. It's a shame you've gone off the smaller watches, I find they look odd for about 5 minutes after I've been wearing something bigger but I soon get used to them.
The Swatch and the skeleton aren't really my cup of tea but I'd be surprised if there wasn't someone somewhere who could fit a new battery if you want to keep using it - and it must be collectable, themed Swatches usually are.
I like the Titus too, it's also had a good caning by the looks of it!

Monster has been worn on many surfing holidays and used every time I’m in the sea / ocean. It’s still my go to watch for getting dressed up, quick clean and it brushes up well. And really I just like it.

The Titus is interesting, the old boy wore it for years in India in the war, then after as a mechanic, then it sat in a box for years, then I got it, had it serviced by another old boy at the old school watch repair shop and was advised to leave it as is, with all its blemishes etc, which I have. It’s quite light and keeps really good time, which was a pleasant surprise.

It’s not a patch on the super dooper expensive watches out there, but the Seiko auto relay was genuinely amazing when I bought it about 30 years ago, the demo in the shop when the sales guy took it out the drawer, showed my father and I the date and time which were both out of whack, he then shook the watch a few times and the hands magically go round and like magic it’s all correct. Still makes me smile today.

Monday’s idle thought, I’ve found myself looking at the Tudor Black Bay 36 over the weekend. Are Tudor watches ‘investment’ pieces, i.e. will generally retain their value to an extent?

Depends on the price you’re paying. There’s one on the TZUK classifieds at £1750 at the moment.

I do think that Tudors will hold value to a certain point but it won’t be spectacular. I think I got about £1200 for a Ranger that was retailing at £2k at the time (I earned back what I paid for it).

Tudors are nice watches though. I’ve got a North Flag (possibly selling it) and a BB GMT at the moment.

Bolo, £1k off RRP was a great price! I had been watching various places for ages and in the end used James Henry watches (top gent) and got 20% off. Yes I agree, you/we wouldn't lose much of selling now, private sale at least, dealer sale you'd lose a little.

Wolowiz, yes that's it. I'll get some fresh photos when home from the girls swimming lessons, currently sunny in slightly in South London so if it stays that way I'd hope to capture the dial nicely. Yes it's unmarked besides the usual swirls. Currently sized for my 6.5-6.75" wrist but I've the spare links and will put the original Seiko clasp and divers extension back on it. I've had a strapco/miltat/swc glidelockalike clasp on it, I found the original Seiko clasp really long... Although come to think of it the 62 Mas currently on my wrist has the same clasp and... Must have been the watch head. The sumo is large at 45mm but I found out really comfy, the Seiko cases have huge underside chamfers and nine curves to them lugs so seem to hug wrists well. The fat bezel also meant it is visually smaller than the dimensions suggest, definitely not my biggest visually. I really like it, but since I got hold of this , one of 2018 limited edition Japan made, 62 Mas modern interpretations, with an incredibly vibrant green dial to die for, 2 green Seikos seems OTT. Should complement your collection though! Love the orange Munster! Great fun beach beater! Although the sumo will give it a run for that title.

Hot Tudor...bb58, BB, particularly the original smiley dial, pelagos, chrono. These all hold within 20% or closer of RRP. The Harrods BB still sells above rrp. I think most other Tudors do ok, but drop more, maybe 30-40% from RRP

Is the Swatch any different to other Swatch watches? Is it just the collector factor that bumps the price up?

No trolling, just curious.

Yeah just the collector factor. It was one of the first to have a Nivachron balance spring though which is a titanium-based alloy that is resistant to magnetism, shocks, aging, and temperature variation, providing a better and more consistent chronometric performance. I also think it’s a really good looking watch (but I’m probably biased though, that’s why I bought it). I am open to offers.

Went to the AD on Friday. So true what they say about trying things on. From previous comments I thought my wife (who was very embarassed at first and then soon got used to pampering...) would be into a Cartier Must but, and she was quite right, it just didn't sit well on her wrist. Nor was she a big fan of the JLC Reverso two-handers. Not that she didn't like but the 'flip' was of no interest to her and she has a clear preference for Roman numerals. Then I asked for the Americaine...

BAM, perfect fit first time. We tried the medium but despite Mrs Gaidong not having very gracile limbs, the small was the obvious winner.

https://www.watchuseek.com/attachments/20220211_150240-jpg.16431866 /" alt="" />

The curvature of the case follows her wrist very nicely. I'm not sure it'll be the easiest to read in 20 years' time but we'll cross that bridge... in 20 years?

https://www.watchuseek.com/attachments/20220211_151451-jpg.16431869 /" alt="" />

Now just a strap to choose. Oh, and the small matter of me saving up to pay for it!

I like that datejust, nice dial and it's great to have a watch with history/memories. I hope my kids or their husbands wear my watches after I've gone, and occasionally think of me when they do

That’s a really nice watch, the blue face is very “of its time” but it looks good - class will always out.

Mrs Gaidong didn’t mind being the model for the day? And she’s looking forward to her beautiful future present…

@gaidong - that’s a very classy watch, and as you say, the perfect fit. The blue alligator strap looks best, the ideal combination as far as I’m concerned.
She modelled the watch very well, too - she aught to consider a job as a photographers hand-model for jewellery!

Morning STW-WIS!

I agree @countzero, the blue strap looks nicer but in a cold and clinical way that doesn't suit my wife (she wears a LOT of cherry red). There was an incredible difference between the colour of the Camille Fournet strap leathers in hand and in photo. In any event, I'm not buying until next year, when the big birthday is but also to get the full warranty, and maybe there'll be some model change. The Americaine has been around for a few decades now so there should be something suitable. Indeed, I could get a second hand white gold one in the same size for the same price or cheaper! But this'll be a daily and will get scratched AF.

@SSS, she did mind very much at first! I am the big spender by far in our marriage. Or rather, she spends less overall but more on 'experiences' whereas I'm into non-perishables, for myself and others. (She was very unimpressed with her Lego Bouguet this morning... https://www.lego.com/fr-fr/product/flower-bouquet-10280)

@gaidong that lego bouquet is awesome. Im going to buy Mrs SSS one for next year, or her birthday this year 😀

Mrs SSS wants a Rolex DateJust, steel/gold for her birthday ref 279171, but until she starts wearing her Tag Aquaracer often (she wears a Garmin) she isnt getting one....

However, back to 1980s casio modules (circa 1985) here is a TS-1200 module 515 - which has seen better days, but still works.

Where else can you see Cartiers and Casios in the same thread??

Casio-515

Any grand Seiko fans? I've developed a lusting for sbga 229 or 231 (or the older incarnations).

Oh and can anyone tell me what the model code letters and numbers mean? S for sports? A for spring drive? (H mechanical?)

£2k doesn't seen outrageous for an automatic Swiss chronograph. If it said Speedy on the dial....

Also, these new black Seiko's look pretty smart, popped into my news feed this morning. Fratello.

Those black edition Seikos look really good. If I hadn’t just bought the green sumo from @neilnevill, I would have been really tempted.

I can’t get my head around £2k for a Tissot, it looks great though.

Personally I'm not sure why - its a 100% made in Switzerland piece with an ETA/Vajoux movement, Sapphire, 100m push-pull auto chrono, as above you'd be paying more with another name on it.

That may be true, growing up the Tissots I saw were generally viewed as a cheaper option watch with minimal desirability. Probably unfair, as that does look like a lovely piece.

Yeah, perception means a lot when spending big money. The perception here being Tissot also make cheap(ish) quartz models so are a bit of a middling brand. Maybe the reason Omega dropped the Quartz a few years before their prices started approaching Rolex!

Does anyone know if you can buy the seiko Seichu style straps ? I do like the look of the ones in the promo pics for those black edition seikos.

Quick google suggests you can get seiko straps, but specifically the Seichu style ones.

I bought hard to find Seiko straps from Masters in Time.  They are in Holland but I wouldn't have an issue using them again.  If anywhere has what you're after it'll be them
