I’m after your recommendations for some decent wasabi peas. By decent I mean proper knock your head off and clear your sinuses for a week wasabi (not horseradish in disguise) and no huge list of chemical based (or palm oil derivatives) ingredients

What have you got?

Never seen a supermarket product that has more than a tiny amount of actual wasabi. (I heard once that actually very few "pure" wasabi products are exported from Japan due to how difficult it is to grow, etc, don't know how true that is though). There is a Japanese deli locally to me but I've never thought to look for proper wasabi when shopping there! There is at least one UK grower of Wasabi now IIRC so possibly might be easier to source now.

Interested! I just stock up on M&S wasabi peas as they're growing scarcer in the 'usual' supermarkets. I don't doubt that they are just 'generic' wasabi peas in finest packaging though 😉

If anyone can find any of that dark Lindt Wasabi chocolate for a reasonable price I would be eternally grateful, a product sadly wasted on the general public I fear.

Wasabi and Horseradish are closely related, but actual Wasabi doesn't store / travel well so AIUI every time you've eaten 'Wasabi' it was probably actually horseradish + green colouring.

See:

That sounds amazing!

They are actually as good as, if not better, than anything else I've found on the "high street".

(not horseradish in disguise)

Er.... good luck!

Every one-in-ten of the M&S wasabi peas do this, it's like Russion roulette!

Hmm I’ll have to try the M+S peas. The chocolate sounds good, I love the wasabi kitkats from Japan

+1 for your local Chinese supermarket. Usually one level up from regular supermarkets in the blow-your-sinuses out stakes.

mmmmm wasabi peas. Got a craving now for them..

Yeah sorry Drac that was un-necessary, I was browsing their site as well, just laughed at juxtaposition of 'proper wasabi' and an ingredients list that started with... not wasabi.
