Just musing on life's choices, and thinking about a serious hole in the market.
I used to live on an island in the West Indies, and they had no eco-tourism whatsoever. In spite of this, the place could be ripe for mountain biking and other cycling, including wild camping in pristine rain forest.
Anyone fancy starting a business? You'll have to provide the capital. I'll provide the regional know-how and personal connections. ๐
Are there actual trails? That you don't need a machete for?
God willing ๐
I'm in, got 50p here

None that I know of. Which is why it would be such an exciting venture. Don't you think?
I'll take that as a 'yes', Junkyard. ๐
But by the looks of it

you're going to have to bid your house if you want to keep Houns at bay.
Is it 38 degrees all day long with 110% humidity and lethal tropical diseases?
It 29-30 degrees noon and night, the sun rises and sets at almost exactly the same time every day, and there are no tropical diseases to be afraid of.
The monkeys, on the other hand, are amazing.

I'd pay just to see this mysterious phenomenon.
IIRC, the 'funk' issue of Bike (circa mid-1990s) had a good article about a mountain bike tour company operating in Jamaica.
It looked... relaxed. ๐
Looks lovely, but also like it will be teeming with all manner of spiders, snakes and the like and for that reason alone - I'm out.
I think you should send Junky to do a recce!

i know what you mean, i used to live with a semi-pro downhiller
pristine rain forest.
bar the new mountain bike trails someone's hacked and chainsawed onto the fall line, the subsequent erosion, disturbance to flora and fauna, the new clearings for camping, the drop latrines, the fridges and generators for the post ride beers etc etc ๐
@surrounded that's fabulous ๐
As someone who's lived in a tropical climate I can't think of a more unpleasant place for biking ! Monkey's are best seen from a distance too, fearless little buggers
