Me and Miss TNW occasionally suffer with blisters walking long distances (>15mi) with a load (bivvy kit). I've just accepted it as inevitable in the past but just done a bit of reading about how to avoid it. One suggestion is vaseline (no s****ing at the back) on the feet, but I wondered if chamois cream would work similar/better since it's designed to do a very similar job. Anyone tried it?
I used to get blisters, of the blood variety right enough, playing indoor 5 a side footy. Solved it by going up half a size and wearing two pairs of socks with Vaseline in between each pair.
Sounds daft, but worked a treat.
I use vaseline for ultras, no s****ing necessary 🙂
Where do you get the blisters?
Usually on the inside of my big toe, the ball of my foot and bottom and sometimes back of my heel.
I've just bought some footbeds to reduce the volume of my boots to try and reduce movement. They were comfortable before and remain so now, though I'm conscious of too much compression. Brisk 4 mile walk to work as a test this morning was fine though.
