A one-time colleague knew a farmer type bloke who decided to free up some twine or something from a baler when it was still running and ended up losing the fingers off one hand - he got off lightly there to be honest.

A few years later the other hand got slammed in a steel door and he lost the fingers off that one too.

He apparently wasn't that bothered, he said the only thing he couldn't do was pick his nose.

My sister at a relatively young age managed to slam her fingers in a car door. Somehow the car door managed to close completely (was on a car without central locking so the lock was already pushed down.)

There was a fair bit of screaming involved.

Hope it all goes well!

my dad cut his ring finger off with a circular saw - the saw jerked after hitting a knot, and his finger went in the whole the saw dust comes out of. It was a bit mangled so couldn't be re-attached. it took him a while to relearn typing as he kept missing the I, O and P.

Relieved mrs S of duties. She's now heading home with jr sr, so now jr jr and I are waiting for his slot in theatre. Couple of emergency cases lined up in front of him so 5pm slot looking more like 8pm. Fella's bearing up pretty well for a lad who hasn't eaten since 7.30 this morning.

I've done something similar, I'd done my knee in so was leaning/pulling on the door frame to get out of the front door when my brother slammed the back door which pulled my thumb into the pannelgap! Lot of noise for a few seconds then realised it wasn't so bad and waited for mum to come back with the keys. Very red and sore, but no bruising odly.

He'll be alright and chicks dig scars, [s]even[/s] especially at nursery.

Yep, one of the best things about being an mtber is being able to join in with the 'show your baddie' circle time ๐Ÿ˜‰

Healing vibes to the little guy, bless him.

Gosh, poor mini Stoner. You and the missus sound very calm, I'd be panicking a little.

I'm sure he'll mend very quickly.

Is that 'cause your finger tips don't get in the way anymore ?

Good luck with Jr Jr tomorrow Stoner, I'm sure your little soldier will be fine ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope he's ok, cut the tip off my ring finger last week, kept the tip too but it didn't go back on! No stitches or skin back over the top, apparently it will mend well more or less by its self.

Hope all goes well. I came over cold reading your first posts. It sounds like you've done all the right things, horrible for the little feller though.

One of our lads had a couple of broken fingers from getting a hand trapped in a door when he was wee. I've never heard screaming like it.

Poor chap. At the same age, my nephew had his trigger finger slammed in a draw at a Travelodge by his sister whilst staying away. Made for an interesting wedding day in A&E followed up by plastic surgery. Anyway, a couple of years down the line, he's made a good recovery, including reattachment of the tip. Has a scar but nothing of consequence. His dad's happy that he'll still be able to shoot one day!

Hope all goes well tomorrow.

Yipes, just read this. I had the top joint of my index finger reattached aged 13: it was almost completely severed and just hung off a sliver of skin in a bandage for six or seven hours. A very clever plastic surgeon reattached it and sewed all the internal bits back together, and barring some fun with minor infections it was all fixed inside of two months. I even got all the feeling back after a couple of years. It looks a bit wonky now but works perfectly, I can use it for one-finger braking and everything. So there's a good chance they'll be able to patch him back up good as new - tinies heal fast too. All the best, hope it goes well.

Hope it goes OK fella (was going to say fingers crossed, but I thought it wouldn't be in the best taste).

Kids eh, they charge about like they are bomb proof, but when one gets damaged it is heart breaking. One of mine has put us through the mill a bit over the last 10 months but she carries on like she couldn't give a toss. ๐Ÿ˜€

He'll be reet and as a bonus may have a scar that he can waive at his mates for the next 80 odd years.

Jr's out from surgery. And after an initial grump, there are no limits to the restorative powers of buttered toast. Mrs S gone on final shift now, hopefully bringing him home this afternoon. Wont know whether the graft back will work until it either does or falls of like a black pea ๐Ÿ˜ฏ , but apparently it's very handy to be able to stick the missing bit back on as it will act as a dressing helping the soft tissue heal over the exposed bone tip, even if the finger tip itself eventually dies and falls off.

You and the missus sound very calm,

TBH what with Jr Sr turning up 9wks prematurely and having two eye ops by his second birthday and his haemangioma to keep an eye on we're pretty stoic about broken kids by now - and at least know our way around BCH pretty well by now too.

Kids should come with warranties IMO.

BCH may not be the slickest outfit, in fact I dont think we've ever had an appointment kept to time, but they get there in the end.

Anyway thanks for all the support guys & girls. Much appreciated during a long night in a hospital camp bed. Will get a pic of Jr Jr back on his Islabike as soon as he has his deathgrip back.

Just seen this. Best of luck.

My youngest took the end of his pinky off in a door about 6 months ago. It sounds very similar to your wee one's injury, he was about 3 at the time and cut off at the base of the nail.

The medical folks were brilliant and we had a plastic surgeon reattach it that evening. Now, you wouldn't know it had ever been injured. Well, if you look really closely you can just about make out a scar. They seem really not bothered at that age (amazing) and their powers of healing are impressive. He was in a boxing glove bandage for about 3 weeks (from memory, might have been 4). It took a month or two of the nail to fall off and grow back again.

Anyway - hope it all goes well! Hopefully, he'll not even have any real scar to show off!

Thanks for the update Stoner. Poor little lad, do hope he's on the mend and it won't be long before he's back to his usual self.

What a terrifying experience for you all. ๐Ÿ™

For a moment there I thought there had been a wine cellar disaster

I thought there'd been a rave over Castlemorton again and they'd broke into the cellar.

All the best to the little 'un.

Best of luck to him. A thread like this would have been a mystery to me about all the fuss until I became a dad.
