Had quite a lot of delays opening pages/site not available (and of course the current empty threads issue) over the last few weeks. Have any reasons been given?
I think the servers have been depressed since Surf-mat walked out...
..... maybe they feed on swear words and they're slowly starving ๐
hamsters havent been fed for a while ? - again
seems to be a common issue lately
but heard or seen nought as to why
actually there's a thread on the bike forum about this
Something about royal mail not processing their backlogs properly from all the bad whether in December.
Its all gone well "shonky" ? Frozen pipes perhaps or maybe run out of logs ?
i think its all run on a jesusphone that has some kind of glitch related to the new year alarm problems
What tyres for wheels that have fallen off?

There's a bike forum? ๐ฏ
The system admin stop wearing a powerband
There's a server upgrade going on, Mark posted something on Twitter about it.
I always find it amusing that the site is running really slowly so people flood the forum with topic after topic of "why is the site running so slowly?!" which slows it down even more... ๐
There's a server upgrade going on,
Which means a server's ****ed and they're trying to fix it! This is pretty much the only place I've had inconsistent server behavior over an extended period (i.e. 6 months).
Agreed STW uptime is pretty bad.

OK, the actual Twitter post said:
Just to keep everyone in the loop, the downtime on the main website is because we are adding an extra server to our 'fleet' in order to keep up with the surge in Premier Subs and the demand for the Premier content. We'll be back up and running in a couple of hours ๐
That was about an hour ago.
What are we supposed to DO until then? ๐ฏ
is STW uptime really pretty bad ?
apart from the last few days it's always seemed pretty good to me ?

Can us proles who don't want Premier anything just have a basic and non-shonky STW then?
Well if they have a 'fleet' of servers I'd be a little worried because the performance is rather pants.
If a lot of video is being streamed though you could see how it might affect performance but I would say the speed issue pre-dates the Premier content.
Must be a tough dealing with it though.

Work
Idiot!
What's the Twitter a/c?

Like it says on every page of the site, in the footer, http://www.twitter.com/singletrackmag
the speed issue pre-dates the Premier content.
We've had Premier content for over a year. The speed of the site has increased n that time. As Tom says, our uptime is better than Twitter and Facebook. The load on the current servers needs spreading out better due to the high volume of Premier traffic. That's why we have just had an extra dedicated server installed and are in the process of moving things around. Things break.. the database did and the site went down while we rebuilt it. It's not totally there yet but you are here and by tomorrow all posts will be back in place and everyone will be happy ๐
If that's not a good enough explanation then by all means keep making stuff up ๐
<STWPendantry>
Uptime is not a measure of performance. But that said I've no complaints on either front.

Must be my broadband then. Maybe you should ask the facebook guys round for a coffee to show them the secret ๐

The STW Forum has better uptime than Twitter and Facebook.
IGMC
It would be handy if the site was really slow while someone was serving a ban... in theory like....
It's probably the nosy advert that knows what I've been Googling and then advertises something along the same lines - surely that must take some feeding.

Yay, it's all ba....
...... oh ๐
So are we getting back the mine of information that was the historic threads, or have these been lost forever?
Not very good.
It will take a long time to copy the data from our backups to restore the forum. We've decided to wait until very early on Sunday morning to do that as the forum will be out of action while the backup happens.
OK, thanks
