I've been looking at VRS's but the seat material and LOUD puts me off alittle.
Circa 2002/80k 1.8T Passat estates- how much life can I expect? Will I be servicing minor probs from here on in????
Do it. 80k is fine. A map will see you at circa 220bhp. My mates seat is rapid with the engine. However get a diesel! ๐
I bought mine (98S though) at circa 100k and it wasn't *too* bad... Usual wear and tear. Until around 140k when it failed an MOT quite spectacularly (I think it nearly killed the emissions tester!) and I disposed of it. Not the most exciting thing to drive, but what big estate is?
Christ, the same questions but just different car? Refer to all your other posts?
LHS = grumpy git ๐
Maybe, but seriously, its the same car, same engine, same ability to remap, etc etc, so why the repeat posts?
Passat has the same floorpan as the mkIV golf etc?
Hora i had a 2002 passat estate . sport model is essential as all other models handle like boats.
no problems with mine apart from the water pump sheard(plastic blade model, replaced with metal blade)
also had to have a new clutch at 21000 but this could of been down to the previous owner!!.
i had mine mapped(mine had the vvt engine version which is best apparently) it was mapped to 207 bhp but with an air filter it was probbaly close to 210bhp.
went like stink but drank fuel if you booted it all the time
if i had bought the diesel version i would still have it now as they are still really nice cars!!
As renton says, get the Sport model or the handling will upset you.
Decent cars that are well made and pretty trouble free - just not very interesting - for many, that's fine.
i've got a 2001 1.8T passat, returns about 32mpg on my crawl to work - great comfy cruiser but boring as hell, cant wait to move it on if i'm honest for something a bit more involving
What mileage is yours M6TTF/how long have you had it?
I've got a 2005 TDI sport - 45MPG chugging to work - 55MPG on steady run. Loads of space and pretty tough even my 3 year old hasn't wrecked it completely. Definately get Sport model - handles much better than standard ones on 15" wheels and bouncy suspension. Done 125K (ex lease car I've done 11 K in 10 months) and still goes pretty well. Not exciting but big and tough!
Its true I am going to get the engine remapped as soon as the cars had an oil change etc- one thing I didnt know- the suspensions wallowy and the sports the one to go for. Ta for this ๐
I have a Highline estate and it is lovely on the motorway but does suffer from the wallow, it is certainly not a drivers car. However I regularly get 55+ mpg on the way to work so I am not complaining.
My 97 Audi A4 avant 1.8t has nearly 170K on the clock and is going fine.
They are solid engines, and well looked after ones will run forever. Sure the performance won't set Jeremy Clarkson's pants on fire, but it will leave most boy racers at the lights.

78K had it 2.5yrs, don't get me it's a good car, I'm just used to nippy chuckable motors. My wife uses my Polo Gti which is great fun, and prior to that I had a G40 which was mega fun!
g40 ๐ love those so much!
TDI sport here, 80k ish, only problem a leak from blocked drain holes in the scuttle tray (?) where the battery sits into the foot well.
Reasonably quick, handles alright but it's an estate so what do you expect. ๐

These days, handling as good as, if not better than the saloon version...
'01 1.9 td pd 100 esate.
a mind blowing 237,000 miles. Almost problem free, central locking has a habit of locking without any buttons being pushed. Apart from that 60 - 64 mpg cruising to work and back ( 64 miles round trip ) . Aircon is a blessing in this heat, never driven a sport / highline so cannot comment on the suspension, but with fuel prices creeping up it is amazing for a 1.5ton car.
Oh, and the oil level sensor in the sump wiring has failed, changed the sensor during an oil change, and the oil level light still on on the dash
