@dudeofdoom – the Renault 5 Gordini predates the GTI as do some fast Alfasuds

The Golf GTI was probably the first one that was bolted together correctly and compared to British cars of that period was clearly made by aliens
Oddly when I went to buy my second Mk1 GTI the seller also had had a Renault 5 Gordini and asked if I’d rather have that, they were rather rare and quirky at the time.
I`d still argue that the mk1 Golf Gti is the most iconic hot hatch that started the craze back in the day 🙂
