OK - so I've downloaded the software and it seems to work, though I'm bamboozled by all the options. Now, how do I get OS maps?

Do I need to pay for them or are they available for free yet?

The package I bought came with the National Parks on 1:50 OS maps for £25, they should be in the folder you downloaded the program in. In Viewranger you can either go through options>Data manager>maps or Search>View on map to see an OS on screen.

You may have downloaded the program only which will mean you have to download maps separately. I download using the over the air option which means getting map tiles for the areas I need, 1:50 usually does for riding but I'll get 1:25 for running.

Hope that helps good luck

Phil

Ah - just done some reading on the OS OpenData thing.

It allows access to "mid-scale mapping" but doesn't include 1:50000 or 1:25000 Landranger and Explorer maps...

Thanks Phil.

I downloaded the app only from OVI store, so no maps yet.

if you go into the app options on your phone it gives you a choice of free mapping - at least one of them appears to be full OS style with all bridleways and contour lines shown.

my one only downloads 'on demand' I think so you need to have a gps signal to get it to start for the local area you're in.

Really? Which option/menu? I can only see a pretty basic list, none of which look like OS mapping.

no worries, I've not really had a chance to use it beyond 'sat at my desk playing' yet.
