I wonder how many other people who are charged with rape get bail?

Most - its about wether they are likely to reoffend or abscobd. There's three Brighton footballers in court this week who've been out since they were charged.

Don't know any figures. But I've just seem some shockingly low conviction rates on the Independent site

That's really depressing stuff

Without making any judgement about the case, I am intrigued to know how they are going to prove 'beyond reasonable doubt' in a case nearly 40 years old, and, which I assume (quite probably wrongly), will be one person's word against another's.

I'd expect it's numbers.

There's ten girls pressing assault charges (in addition to the rape). Assuming that they're not all conspiring, then if their allegations have a common MO (as was the case with our Jimmy) then it gives the charges more weight.
