@Poopscoop

Drillship.

Currently getting ready to run away from yet another hurricane… both meteorological and political

I have to pinch myself occasionally to remind me of what a miracle the 'net is. I'm here in the UK just casually chatting to someone on a ship in the gulf of Mexico.

Good luck evading the hurricane!

Kamala would obliterate Trump in a fight to the death. He's a fat old man with child's hands.

Currently listening to last night's Rogan podcast with Elon Musk, and it's worrying me that the collective consciousness of political rhetoric in the US is even worse than we think. The conversation so far is a constant stream of misinformation yet all on the subject of fighting misinformation. It's horrendous,  and drifting well into Tucker Carlson territory, except this man could soon be one of the most powerful on earth.

After that I'll listen to the Rest is Politics live stream for a bit, then I'm going to bed. I'm not going to torture myself while I could be sleeping.

It’s horrendous, and drifting well into Tucker Carlson territory,

In order to quiet my mind and get to sleep, I have to put on a sleep mask with headphones built in and listen to a podcast. Puts me to sleep in 10 minutes and I'll generally sleep until my alarm

In recent months, when the podcast I started finished, Spotify would start playing random ones.

Several times I've been woken up in the middle of the night thinking wtf is this in my head, and discovered it's playing Tucker Carlson. Unfortunately Spotify doesn't allow you to block podcasts so you're at the mercy of their algorithm.

His podcast is so batshit crazy it actually wakes me up

I file the US elections under "I can't influence it so don't I get hung up on it"

@BoardinBob what Spotify does have is a sleep timer that can stop play at the end of the podcast you've selected.

There's really no need to torture yourself like that.

I think polls close around 9am my time so I'll have things on in the background most likely and be feeding key things to my mate in LA.

Fair play to Channel Four - apparently they have Stormy Daniels as a guest!  Unfortunately Johnson as well.

not techie enough for an eyemask with built in podcasts, i rely on R5 from an am radio through one earphone.

i suspect election night is a bit like the golf, tennis etc.... if i wake up, i will be going back to sleep in silence

I’ve got a horrible 23rd June 2016 sense of foreboding about all this so I’m going to pretend it’s not happening right up until the point where it inevitably does

WWE politics from another country no chance. Our brand of old man moral outrage, subterfuge and distraction is bad enough!

Yeah watching TRIP and it's great. The news channels tend to regurgitate the same chat over and over again while there's nothing to report so tend to get boring but the TRIP conversation is far more varied and interesting

TRIP here too. C4 team is dreadful. Who on earth put that together wants shooting. Spicer just spreading Fake Trumpisms, Johnson with his book in his hands, both drowning out the quiet D in the middle.

Channel 4 was great when Emily maitlis had a huge go at BJ over his trumpian behaviour. He was visibly shook

I’m stuck on Avanti West Coast until 10pm tonight, so I will idly refresh a couple of news channels.

Yeah based on this thread I'd have gone the west coast line too - the Aberdeen Express sounds terrifying!

I love that Pittsburgh has had to drag staff in from other departments...

Including Parks and Recreation. 🙂

Good God no! Not a chance. The thought of Dementia Don getting another shot at cosplaying President of the United States is frankly terrifying, but there’s bugger all I can do about it, and it’ll be all over my Flipboard news feeds tomorrow, unless I ignore all those, go out somewhere during the day and find out at tea time on the national news.

I'm enjoying watching the Aberdeen Express achieve legendary status before my very eyes.  I remember when these fields were all filled with frozen sausages....

Well, as of 1.07am it's looking like Harris hasn't done as well amongst women voters and Latinos as the Dems had hoped. Ouch.

The US coverage has much more ongoin granular analysis than BBC.  ABC are on YouTube and I'm switching between the 2.

I'm following it here:

https://decisiondeskhq.com/results/2024/General/President/

Too early to know much, if Trump loses North Carolina, it will be hard for him to win. If Harris loses Pennsylvania, it will be hard for her to win. Having an early lead doesn't mean much because rural counties (which favour Trump) are often reported much faster than cities (which favour Harris and have much larger populations).

NYT have called for Trump which is... optimistic at this point but they could still be right of course.

Going to have to head up at 3am but I'm not getting a good vibe at the moment.

Nah, tat's not right, they're saying "leans Trump" with 67% likelihood, which isn't nothing but it's far from calling it. Basically saying that they think he'll win nc and ga which makes a democrat win difficult

Which is nice.;-)

I'd read last week about the red mist where republican votes get counted earlier due to small rural districts finishing their count first but this feels bigger than that , at least that's the feeling I get from the radio coverage , listening to LBC at work .

There needs to be a long hard look at what it is that creates such a gap in ideas and understanding. There is such a gulf between ‘how is he even the candidate’ to the fact that it’s close enough that it looks like he’s winning. Ugh, this is terrible!

It’s looking more and more like it’s going to be a Landslide for DT and the Republicans in both the Senate and the House.  🙁
