She wont start, no problems leading up to now.
It fires on the key and instantly dies
The fuel filter has been suggested, I've loosened the fuel filter drain plug and diesels coming through.
Any ideas.
heater/glowplugs?
Faulty stop motor? Thinks you are stopping engine when key returns to run?
Faulty ignition switch as above?
Been yrs since I worked on Landies tho....
Air getting to fuel system? possible broken (corroded) pipe at tank sender. Caused similar prob on my old Discovery.
Air filter blockage is another possibility
year / engine ?
1996 200 TDi
starts on the turn, fires, and dies. Sounds like it'll start fine, as if you've switched it on and off straight away.
I don't think it's the filter, possibly some sort of fuel stop solenoid or relay?
If it was the solenoid it probably wouldn't fire at all.
Could be the diaphragm in the lift pump leaking slightly and allowing fuel to drain back to the tank. Leaks in the rubber spill pipes between the injectors will do the same - might be worth starting there, it is a cheap and easy job to replace them Have you tried cranking it for 20 - 30 seconds [battery permitting] to see if it pulls fuel through from the tank.
You could try posting the query on www.difflock.com - thy are a helpful bunch
poss imobilzer fault,
On my Disco 300tdi similar symptoms were down to corrosion on the fuel tank. Went through glow plugs, fuel lines and lift pump first to find it.
I have a 96 300tdi, notorias fault on the imbobiliser (spider box, essentially shuts off the fuel)

In my case shut off in the middle lane of the M5, arghh!!
Fixed years ago with aftermarket replacewment by local LR dealer
If its not this, suspect blocked fuel lines, as a diesel, if theres fuel and you can turn over the motor, away it goes.!!
