Well, no big loss really IMO - less than half a season, lacking pace and always had dodgy positional sense.

At least it isn't Rooney that's out.

Agreed, I'm no fan of him and have never seen him play amazing for england. Pretty annoying that its happened just now after the final 23 have been selected!

Agreed.

Not as bad at Ivory Coast just losing Drogba - that is a shame really as it would be good to see him playing.

Class player but it looks like he's started on the downslope of his career.

It's still a loss - international football seems to be about the stage as much as anything else and having the experience to play on it.

Might actually get a decent, committed captain and defender then.

So overrated - always out of position and lazy.

Yeah they are allowed stand-by players up to something like 48 hours before the tournament begins.

Never really understood what all the fuss is about with him,so many times he gets caught out ball watching & then out of position.Gerrard will be a far better captain & will lead by example imo,it might just be the good luck that we need...

Much rather have Terry back as captain, don't care who he is shagging.

Jog on slow and out of postion, him and vidic were the best defensive pair for two seasons running, you do not get in the united first team if your crap full stop.

United were foolish in selling pique as I can see rio being unable to for fill full seasons now much like owen or king.

PFA team of the year 5 times, but terrible positional sense and speed. The guy is a class footy player who had an injury prone season, luckily king and carragher are descent enough.

Its the goaly you wanna watch out for

England - Hart, Green and James
Spain - Casillas, Valdes and Reina - Pepe reina your third choice keeper!!!!!
