The way I look at it, it's down to governments going back to the 70s. Blaming it on Labour is a bit ignorant. Perhaps you should go to uni and study some history and economics.

This is a common argument, but This then implies that when the country is no longer skint, then we will reduce the fees, so it will only be the students from these few years who will need pay. Secondly, the money still comes out of the state, students will not pay the money back for ages. None of the money that will be repaid is going to go towards the current skintness.

Last time I remember police on horse back charging protesters was Poll Tax riots,Wapping,Miners strike and if I,m correct they all happened under a Tory Government.

The universities don't need more money, increasing fees is not going to save the government money. For every £1 of government subsidy/loans etc a university will put back £7.50. Increasing fees is a total waste of time and is not going to save the country from the debt generated correcting the previous Tory government's mistakes.
I will admit part of the reason I put the last post was to get reaction. I'm sick of hearing about the Tories being responsible for the current cuts. All parties are as bad as each other you can't point the finger in one direction. I don't agree with politicians going back on their election promises and the Tories have done that, but labour would have done the same. The only difference is that labour are better at organising strikes and riots 😉

Indeed. I bet the Greeks, Spanish, Portuguese, Irish, and Icelanders, are all very please that Labour wasn't in charge of [i]their[/i] countries during the Global Credit Crunch. Otherwise they would all be "skint" today.

Student loans were introduced in the early 90's under the Tories. I think my first one in my final year in 1992 was circa £500 for the year!

I don't think they are rioting about the system, they are rioting about the amounts involved.

i will never clear my debt, as i'm reminded every year, and i don't owe as much as most of today's graduates.

The amounts are relevant, as they dictate how likely you are to be able to clear it. Obvious, no?
