The most impressive cycle path I've used goes from Bilbao (Portugalete) to Playa la Arena. It's wider than many British roads and runs over viaducts and through tunnels.

Substitute the word "car" for "bicycle" in that article and you have every other city. But if bikes, it's unacceptable? I can't cross my street with a baby buggy without walking right to the end, thanks to cars parked bumper to bumper both sides.
