Can anyone tell me wether I should:
Get the Canadian bank (TD Trust) to send the payment in £ (to RBS)
or
Get TD to send the payment in $Canadian and let RBS change it to £?
Alternatively, how do I find out?
I may be going through a broker (World First), so it may not end up being an issue anyway

Don't do either - go with a broker like XE Trade/Custom House. I assume World First is similar altho I am not personally familiar with it.
They're usually quicker, the rate is usually significantly better and it's less hassle (you would transfer from your Canadian account to their Canadian account, they would transfer from their UK account to your UK account).
