Biggest single earner for the BBC.

So that's 5% of the world who are selfish, boorish and hateful.

Ooohh, an absolute minimum, I'd say. 😀

You could eclipse those viewing figures easily if you showed the live castration of child murderers or Katie Price being inseminated by her own horse.
Wouldn't make it right though, would it? 🙂

The last time I watched the BBC it was a lot of dumbed-down nonsense vaunting greed, opulence, selfishness and bad behaviour

Really? Well, I suppose that excellent documentary on rockpools the other night did have some violent barnacle on anemone fight scenes.

They had some coverage of an opera the other day where someone was drinking. Lager louts, eh?

And as for the rubbish on Radio 4? Etc.

The fail is strong in you.

That's the beauty of it. Those that appreciate his humour get it. Those that don't throwing hissy fits just add to the entertainment value.

It's not humour - that's just a slightly caracatured version of what he actually believes. 🙂

I was just about to point out that branding hundreds of millions of people from all over the world who you have never met as "imbeciles" or "terminally stupid" just for watching a TV programme does make you out to be a bit of a ****. 💡

You have to love the TG threads, how will we manage now this series has finished? The BBC, aspire, good of society, Ha. Where did you get those rosé tinted lenses from? The 60's and 70's? For my BBC tax I wanted to be entertained not preached at.

See, I knew the haterz would be along in a minute. Lol.
You lot are so uptight, jeez, get a sense of humour, it's all made up to get a reaction etc, etc............

[s][s]Clarkson is[/s] I'm just a fictional character on [s]the BBC[/s] STW, [s]he[/s] I play[s]s[/s] to an audience in very successful way for which [s]he is[/s] I am not rewarded. When people get worked up it proves [s]he is[/s] I'm getting [s]his[/s] my act right.

Or perhaps I do really believe it?

Cheer Up

The last time I watched the BBC it was a lot of dumbed-down nonsense vaunting greed, opulence, selfishness and bad behaviour. Clarkson epitomises the new-model BBC. The BBC is no longer aspirational unless you aspire to a dog-eat-dog society.

Perhaps if you were a little more discriminating in what you watched, you'd find that statement to be a load of bollocks. 🙄

Without actually being able to question JC directly, who knows what the truth is.
He's clearly no moron if you actually bother to read some of his stuff. How he actually is will go round and round in circles though, as nobody can answer that.

One of the episodes you missed must have been the "lads" racing through France on public roads at average speeds over the national speed limit. Brits racing through France immune to speed cameras is a serious safety issue with something like 85% of cars flashed on some radars having foreign plates even though foreign plates are only 5% of the traffic.

So, Top Gear is responsible for accidents in France. Gotcha.

Edukator - Member

The percentage of Brits involved in accidents near the channel ports is possibly worse than the 85% of vehicles flashed. Even for France as a whole foreign vehicles are a quarter of the total flashed. The combination of high speed and driving on the other side of the road mean a lot of holidays end badly.

Damn you Top Gear! 👿

Edukator - Member

It works both ways, a French acquaintance survived a fatal accident near Devil's Bridge in Wales. The driver pulled out from the pub on the wrong side of the road and hit a Land Rover head on.

So Top Gear are now making the French drive dangerously on our roads.
The bastards!

You do talk some right trot, but I suppose at least it can be amusing. 🙂

I've read quite a lot of his stuff, back when I was stupid enough to believe his TV persona was just a facade to expose the moronic.

It's bog standard, right wing reactionary bullshit.
Nothing I've read of his shows the slightest originality or independence of thought.

He's a product of Thatcherism and a certain kind of minor public school.

His appeal to the lowest common demoninator is his true genius.
That and getting people he obviously despises to laugh at him and spend money and time on his products, obviously.

No need to own a TV to despise Clarkson.
He writes books, so anyone capable of reading can hate him too. 🙂

Some French tourist driving on the wrong side of the road crashed into one of my crews last year, tipping over the vehicle and injury my staff.

I wonder which French TV programme and presenter is at fault for that as 100% of accidents my crews had last year were caused by French tourists. Not 85% but 100%.

Jeez, there is some reet guff spouted on here...STW at its best!

TG responsible for speeding brits (no other nation speeds in France....you'd never catch an Italian chap enjoying his supercar on the way to Le Man), brits knowing nowt about Le Man's until Top Gear, people vilifyiny speeding as though they've never done it etc.

I quite like Top Gear but admit that it's gone downhill and got a bit samey. They did someone good stuff once - the 24hr race in the 330d was ace, the arctic special was very good. It did used to feel like three mates having a laugh in cars but now feels very forced. The 'characters' are too extreme now.

What really gets me is that all of you who are outraged by it still watch it! If it winds you up that much pick the remote up and change the chanel or turn the TV off! I hate TOWIE, Big Brother, Eastenders along with a lot of other stuff so don't watch it. I know it's a tough concept for some....

As a form of entertainment it works and Fifth Gear are introducing challenges and much more track based mucking about with Tif banging on about power. No one gets upset when VBH is filmed tootling along a country lane in an RS4...

Maybe Fifth Gear encouraged speeding too...

I was going to make some cheap quip about one of those fans being Vicki Butler Henderson mum.

But whilst googling the first thing that popped up on the search suggestion auto fill jobby was "vicki butler Henderson feet"

No, of course not.

If she starts making 'jokes' about shooting motorcyclists in the face, this might change.

I like cars.
I just can't stand TG.

Just watching it now on Sky+, was out last night. Normally I fast forward the Star in a Car bit as the weakest part of the programme but this one with Mark Webber is very good, I like Webber.

The bus segment was very funny too. 🙂

The bus segment was very funny too.

Trying to three-point-turn a double-decker in the centre of Lacock was hilarious, it's wide enough to turn a car, but that's it. Shoo-ing the kids off made me laugh, too. 😀

I've just watched it too.

That bit where he crashed the bus into that parked car - just brilliant!
I can see what I've been missing this series.

And calling Vettel 'ze German':
Fantastic - tuck me in, I think I've prolapsed laughing so much. 😀

I've had an idea for the next series - it involves playing football, but using cars instead of players!
I know, it's a bit far out, but I think this bunch of wacky funsters might just go for it.

Rusty, did you not just wet yourself at the three point turn in the village? And all those little urchins being shooed off by grumpy James? Hilarious I tell ya.

I'm just mopping up now DD.
And the little one - he pulls such funny faces!

Seriously though, I've got to go as I'm re-papering the loo in Union Jack wallpaper.
I feel that the complete and utter failure of our UK owned large scale vehicle manufacturers over the past century should be celebrated in style.

Hurrah for us!

Rusty...what I don't get is why you watch it? You obviously don't like it on any level, so why bother? Is it just so you can come over all Daily Mail and be outraged?

It's not the fact that you don't like it, it's that you still watch it.

I will agree that the format is getting tired and they're repeating the same stuff...car football being one. I enjoyed it when they tested semi sensible cars...episodes like when they took the Z4, Boxster and S2000 to the Isle of Man or Clarksons test of the M3 CSL were genuinely enjoyable. I enjoy the super ar tests, but its pretty much all they do these days.

I don't usually.
If there's a car or item I'm particularly interested in, I'll give it a go.

Sadly, every series seems to have become a weaker, lazier, more patronising cliche than the one before.

I used to quite like it, before it became a children's programme.

Now it seems to solely appeal to the testosterone fuelled wet dreams
of pre-pubescent boys - the 21st century equivalent of the Countach poster from Athena.

It's Last Of The Summer Wine for a younger generation. It's even got the same time slot.

Never liked Clarkson though - either as a print ot TV journalist.
Always struck me a a genuinely unpleasant, supercillious bell-end and he just gets worse with age.

So did I - Tennis Girl too. 🙂

You're not taking my corruscating critique of the dumbing down of popular motoring culture seriously are you? 😀

I have no issue with the worship of speed - I like cars, bikes, noisy engines and being a bit naughty in motor vehicles.

It's the elevation of the banal and the revelling in ignorance I can't stand.

This from the country that gave us Leonard Setright, George Bishop, Russell Bulgin, Phil Llewellyn and Kevin Ash.

Rusty...it has definitely got weaker. This format has run its course, although it does still have its mo nets.

Yunki...Tiff has become a poor mans Clarkson. On the last serious of Fifth Gear he kept on banging on about power, I need more power etc when they were doing the team test. He does have more serious moments though.
