Ok it’s in Italian but Davide Cironi’s Drive Experience YouTube channel is great.

Also petrolicious. Artistic p0rn for car nuts.

I'm a Patron of HubNut but I didn't think it was quite the stuff the posters were looking for.

Having said that Ian can really hustle some shite along.

Oh and less of the oldish as I'm well over 10 years older than him 😉

Was very good although I haven't seen anything from them for a while (just checked seems they stopped about 9 months ago)

Smith & Sniff (Jonny Smith from the Late Brake Show & Rich Porter of Sniff Petrol, also the script writer for Top Gear and the Grand Tour

This is my dog walking podcast. Still only got as far as November last year, so still plenty to go. I signed up as a patron recently to give something back.

I quite enjoyed last night's episode - although I think they could perhaps have also shown the less sexy side of trucking - the lack of secure rest places, dirty or unavailable facilities etc – from what I understand the general picture for truckers is not like the lovely cafe they showed in the piece. And no mention of mass-murdering or dogging either.

Saying that – I was impressed at them all getting the licences!

But I loved the Lotus piece – there needs to be so much more car stuff.

They could have used it to show how poor the truckers facilities are. Perhaps poo'ing in the hedge would have done it.

That was the sexy side of trucking? 10 minutes of hilarious reversing and driving around massive airfields, some bantz about posh coffee and a riveting road trip to Pembrey via Abergavenny? Prime time TV on a Sunday night hasn't looked so exciting since Harry Secombe's Highway!

I do wonder if those racing trucks were actually in the trailers or if that was just for show and they were actually empty.

I went to see truck racing a couple of times when it was a big thing that had manufacturer teams in the 90's. Back then they had to be largely based trucks that were available to buy and the big Merc's were the ones to beat. Nothing ever finished with wing mirrors in place, it was bloody brilliant racing.

I wonder if they can rig up their phone in the DAF to show pornhub on the screen.
Save having to balance their laptop on their knee whilst driving and having a wink

I used to watch that at Brands before they changed the braking systems to not catch fire when they went around Druids - watching two bloody great trucks steaming out of a bend rubbing cabs with fire streaming out the wheel arches was incredible

As someone who's dad was a trucker when me and my brother were kids and that my favourite film is Convoy I loved the 'murdered out' Actros and the Kris Kristofferson references!

Truck racing is still superb fun - was at Brands for firework night and a day of racing - most excellent fun!

That right hander in Abergavenny is a nightmare> Whoever sent them that way was a real sadist 🙂

I do wonder how hard it must be to get your licence. My nephew borrowed my tractor and trailer a few months back and spent an hour learning (for the first time ever) to reverse with a trailer. The following week he did one of those intensive HGV courses (including having to drive that right hander in Abergavenny!), and a week later he had his full HGV licence. It took a couple more weeks on an agencies books to get a driving job but he is now driving a full size 40 footer from Merthyr to Cardiff on a daily basis.

<ind you, he was a proper whiz on Play Station truck-driver or whatever it is called!

For the record, I really enjoyed the episode and LOLed many times

As someone who recently passed his test that was actually a pretty decent episode, not too much silliness and the toughness of the job came through in parts.

On the days they were filming this it was actually known that they had planed a fair bit more through the truckers grapevine but the weather really screwed them over. They may have said that the tech on the trucks helped in the wind but that storm was horrific and even seasoned drivers really struggled in it. I was luckily working round Swindon in an 18 that was only 11ft tall and even that was being chucked around like a paper bag, those in the larger curtain-sides were basically parking up and waiting things out!

If they were doing a documentary then yes, but as it's an entertainment show they did alright.

That corner in Abergavenny is a right bastard, all credit to them for not hitting the corner of The Great George pub. You can't see if your exit is clear until it's just too late from both directions and there's always at least one car that will try and bully it's way through. Also the reversing is the most dangerous thing a truck can do. It's pretty easy to lose a small car in your blind spots, hit it and before you've realised half the car will be crushed. Freddie's comment at the end about his new found respect when around a truck in his car is what a lot of people really need to have.

Truck racing is still superb fun – was at Brands for firework night and a day of racing – most excellent fun!

Missed that last year. Will add it to the diary for this winter, been meaning to see truck racing live for a few years now.

Oh and to carry on the conversation about podcasts and YouTube stuff above: Johnny Smith has just done a long interview with Harry Metcalfe (Harry's Garage) on his Late Brake Show channel, well worth a watch when you have the free time.

I've only got Class 2 as I passed a few weeks before they announced the fast-track changes and that was just getting used to your larger size and being sensible. I've had a go in a Class 1 and it is a definite step up but again it's just getting used to the size and also knowing your angles. It's one of those things where you're either able to 'get it' quickly or not at all. The thing about the test though is they're not assessing whether you can drive, you're being assessed on whether you're safe and responsible with that size of vehicle around the public. An out of control car can kill, a truck will obliterate everything in it's path.

After that episode how many new licence holders expect the flagships when rocking up with Driver hire /Best connection only to find the 56 plate daf cf sat there in all its uncleaned glory..

Far play to them all for passing but I bet Hariss passed more than a sweat when he had a moment in Momouthsire.

That XJ12C is my favourite. Beautiful finish on the paintwork.

On some of the agency jobs I did a 56 plate DAF would have been luxury! The worst I had was a 1m km X reg MAN with a manual crash split box and a fixed driver's seat. Try double declutching in a knackered truck with no damping left, a driver's seat that tries to fire you into orbit on every bump and a gearstick so vague that it was a miracle I ever found A gear let alone the one I was aiming for.
