You need one of my patented stickers, benji...

Sounds like it, but what are your forecasted sales for the next three years, and will yield what gross and net profit.

I might be in, depending on the answer.

First year net sales of £3.71m with a gross margin of £4.77m, net £5.66m

By my valuation that makes Mountain Molehill Sticker Enterprises worth £47 billion so I'll offer you 1% at £4b.

I'll take that as a yes and sign you up. You'll have the papers in the morning.

Always amusing that those too rude to wave are always the rudest on waving threads.

No – you haven’t researched the potential competition.

Why don't you just try being less needy instead.

It is actually rather rude to expect to break into someones peace and quiet. Why do you need every other rider to acknowledge your existence, are you suffering from some mental disorder?

Why don't you try searching for a sense of humour.

Also move to somewhere totally remote, where you don't have to suffer the horror of other humans being friendly, you miserable sod.

Thanks sands. I have now revised my forecast and doubled all my figures on the basis that I can print the stickers saying 'Not too pro to wave' and people can cut off / leave on the 'Not' as appropriate, doubling my market 😉

when did they tell you about it? Is it the used bike salesman who gives you the rule book or does the DVLA let you know when you register ownership?

It's part of the CBT. You don't need to wave if you've held a car licence since before 2001 though.

From the sheer number of threads on here it sounds like a lot of cyclists think waving is an actual thing that people do

The threads are all about cyclists not waving 😉

If someone waves I'd either wave back or be too surprised to wave back but it's not me trying to be rude. Is it because I is flat barred?

I get scared when I take my hands off the bars. It usually means I'm falling off.

I have a sense of humour, i am chuckling away at all the people who are so desperate for attention they can't handle someone else on a bike not noticing their waving.

Not sure about waving lol but I usually do the barely perceptible nod

A lot of it stems from motorbiking when someone is exiting your favourite corner and pops a minger with a cheery wave just as you are going the other way on the brakes and concentrating 100%

Yup, right barrel of laughs aren't you.

You must be great fun at parties.

Aww didums, why not go out on a bike ride and wave at strangers in a desperate attempt to validate your existence. While your at it why not wave at everyone as you walk along the street, and at all the people as you go shopping, and at the nice men who accompany you to your comfortable padded cell.

You must be great fun at parties.

Not as much fun as you I'm sure

I was riding my road bike through Clitheroe the other Sunday, looking relatively pro apart from my belly.

Waved and said "how do" to a guy pedalling a Miami Vice-coloured Nomad up the other way.

Nothing.

I know it was one of you miserable buggers.

I've raced cross in Belgium and ridden all over europe training.

In which case you'll know that in Belgium especially, no-one waves.
When you're riding, that's training time. Put your head down and get on with it.
When you get to the cafe stop, you chat with other cyclists who may be there.
Then when you get back on your bike, you're training and you get on with it.

Mostly cos if you waved at every other rider you saw, you'd be riding with one hand off the bars the whole damn time!

Maybe this is it.. this is just on the road, never had it off-road. I might just wave more aggressively

Just lob a water bottle at them, that seems to be SOP whenever I watch large groups of roadies out for a group social on the telly.
FWIW, I usually just nod to other cyclists, irrespective of what they're riding, most nod back. Minimal effort involved, and doesn't risk possible loss of control through only having one hand on the bars on a potholed road.
Perhaps the obvious simple solution isn't obvious to others.

I'm ok thanks, I'll carry on as usual, saying hello and nodding to people if I feel like it and acknowledging people if they do the same. Generally being friendly to fellow cyclists.

You carry on being a miserable shit bag and the status quo is maintained.

In all seriousness I tend to nod rather than wave.

But mostly I don't bother getting upset if its not reciprocated.

Oh and:

looking relatively pro apart from my belly.

Nothing personal but the belly bit makes it as far from "pro" looking as jeans, t shirt and flip flops.

It's laughable that you are so upset that stranger doesn't want to respond to your desperate need for attention that you label them a miserable shit bag. I am perfectly happy and full of the joys of life when out on a solo ride and I don't need anyone else to make me happy.
It is just plane weird to expect that everyone else doing the same activity as you should be your friend, it displays the emotional stability of a puppy, just grow up and stop needing everyone else to shower you with attention.

Sometimes I might nod at passing cyclists, often I am just lost in my own thoughts, one of the reasons I will go on a solo ride is to get a little me time and just get away from everyone, a lot of other cyclists are the same. Stop trying to dictate to everyone how they should enjoy their rides to fit into your need for attention.

I do this, particularly the solitary horse. The bastards never wave back. However it somehow hurts less than being ignored by a cyclist.

I never wave to animals, they can't wave back.

I do talk to them though on the off chance they fancy a chat.

Northerners don't wave. We might raise a finger off the bars if feeling particularly cheerful.

I'm guessing all the anti wavers have friends they can arrange a social ride with when they want, and all the wavers are lonely weirdos that normal people avoid in social situations.

Just please don't acknowledge me or you will ruin my little bubble of solitude.

Really ruins my day when I am lost in my own world and someone has the bare faced cheek to say hello 😆

eurgh...

Me and the kids often take the long way home when I'm ferrying them about in the trailer so that we can take in the 2 mile stretch of seafront (especially if they are tired and cantankerous.. It never fails to send them off to sleep)

It's a busy wide shared path popular with folk on bikes and folk out for a stroll along the prom..

I smiled at a couple of folks we passed the other day and it made me feel like a total weirdo

never again

I'm always surprised other riders think that just because we are both on a bicycle we need to be "friends" and wave. you could be riding an elephant for all I care

On the road bike - I've missed saying hi back loads of times. By the time its registered/about to say hi back they've passed.

At a slower pace theres absolutely no excuse- even on steep descents I still get in a 'how doo' or hi to walkers who let me pass.

For me waving at/greeting other people is dependent on numbers.

For instance I went out on the road bike yesterday and didn't wave at or greet anyone (apart from my next-door neighbour) while riding through the town, but once I was on the quiet roads I greeted everyone (walkers and cyclists) with a 'mornin (probably less than once per 10mins) and stopped as I passed through busier areas.

I can't imagine I'd be awake enough to wave at people during a commute, regardless of how many people there are!

It's not just on the bike. I get this when I wave at random passing pedestrians and vehicles. I get this look like I am some mentaly deranged idiot waving purely becase I have seen someone else using the same mode of transport.

I used to own Smart ForTwos" (bought them for work)

There is/was a code that they would wave/flash/toot at you in a sort of "hello" way.

It was quite fun actually, don;t know if they still do that, I sold the 6 I had and the last one went a couple of years ago.

Still think the middle finger is the best salute. 😆

I nod, rather than wave. It's almost imperceptible though, so it's likely you'd never know if I was shunning you or not. I expect other riders to do the same back, it gives rides a certain mystery. 🙂
