Just to remind you all,
Dont forget 6 and a half hours of live climbing tomorrow on bbc2 scotland.
Hightlights on BBC HD 5 till 7.
I cant wait.
Climbing is one of those sports which just doesn't make interesting tv. Brilliant to do, beyond tedious to watch.
Why on earth would you watch climbing on TV? Like just about every other sport out there, it's far more interesting to do than watch.
Yeah but if you're into it, then maybe you'd find it interesting. I find stuff on design and architecture and that fascinating, while others might be bored stiff by it. Live and let live; if people enjoy it then it's all good, eh?
You have a point,
I am reminded of a great quote by Andy Kirkpatrick
" climbing is like self masturbation, its great fun but no one wants to watch you do it. "
But I dont know what this says about me, I cant wait to watch it!
Yeah but if you're into it, then maybe you'd find it interesting.
I am into it. I'm also into MTBing but can't stand watching it on TV, generally it looks slow and boring and if it looks good I want to go out and do it, not watch it ๐
No I see your point. I can't imagine I'd find it interesting to watch, and sod doing stuff like that picture above. That's just for perverts.
I bet some deviants have shagged in a contraption like that. Dirty bastards.
What are they climbing and what time is it on, please.

So lets just assume it's not too wet, cloudy or windy tomorrow: Dave Mac is going to do a first ascent of a new route on Britain's scariest cliff, in Harris, live on the telly and if that wasn't enough pressure he just had his ankle stitched up from an abseiling woopsy earlier in the week.
Ok, he has spent some time on an abseil rope working out the moves, but the logistics of preparing a route (that overhangs 1 in 3 for 500ft and it blows a hooly half the time) like this are pretty considerable.
there is also a good chance he could seriously scr*w things up and hurt himself.
I wish him all the best!!
Well I can't stand Golf, Cricket or Tennis, yet they take up hours and hours of TV time. As does shite like Big Brother, X-Factor, etc. Watching someone climb a ruddy great mountain seems far more preferable!
wah hoo, not long to go
Incredible to watch.
Wheeee!!! ๐ฏ
Just watched Tim Emmett lead the third pitch - stunning bit of climbing.
Are these the two lads that were on top gear a few years back?
Tim Emmett and Leo Houlding on TG. This is Tim and Dave McLeod.
Why on earth would you watch climbing on TV? Like just about every other sport out there, it's far more interesting to do than watch.
One of my favourite programs on Spanish TV is a mountaineering show, the presenter has a great sense of humour, you can see he's really having fun out there, and the amazing scenery really puts the icing on the cake. It's all a question of presentation.
grrrr bbc 2 scotland.... i want to see it ๐ฟ
Awesome climb. Awesome
Great stuff!
Amazing. Tims expresion said it all when he got over the top ๐
I wish i was at this level. One day. One day.
awsome...what a great sense of achievement ! ๐
good effort by the whole team. superb climbing and superb camera work
Wow, Tim E must have some balls to have led that last pitch so calmly!
Great TV in my opinion. I hope this becomes an annual thing.
Only caught the last hr but really enjoyed it. Respect to these guys...
Did a bit of big wall stuff a few years back, before I discovered a sport where you arn't staring at the same bit of rock for an hour waiting for your mate to clean the pitch, oh there is a view when it's not clouded in or you are trying to keep your head down as various tv sized lumps of rock fly down over your head. My guess is that picture could be anywhere from Baffin/Greenland/****stan etc etc, it's certainly not likely to be any of the 'friendlier' big wall venues judging by the size of the team on it (unless of course they are queuing ala - 'the Nose').
It's on iPlayer now

Climbing has the worst faff factor of any activity I know of; it's really hard to get a good return for the time you invest in training, walking in, gearing up, psyching-up etc, unless you are happy to climb on small local outcrops. What was remarkable about this climb was the speed these boys actually moved at; in part this was because they had their project well wired so knew what was coming up.
Mountainbiking is so much better in this respect (like yesterday, I got 5hrs biking to 2 hours driving; day trip climbing on Ben Nevis gets a miserable 6/20hr ratio and only do-able in perfect weather. so despite being an average biker and having been quite a good climber I am being increasingly drawn to the biking. Maybe a serious mechanical in the middle of nowhere will change my mind again??
