Hi

I'm in Dublin on a work training course which keeps me busy 8-6

I don't know anyone here and spent a tedious evening in the pub last night with some colleagues from another branch which ideally I'd like to avoid doing again

I don't know Dublin at all but any sensible suggestions to kill a couple of hours tonight would be welcomed

Current favourites are the hotel pool or get drunk in a pub and start a fight

I'm near Trinity College

Cheers

See if there is a midweek Leinster Development or AIL rugby match on that kicks off in the evening? Check out what's on at the Board Gais Energy Theatre or the Gaeity Theatre? I think there's a music venue called Whelans you could see what's on there or if there is anything on at Vicar Street? Comedy club?
Trinity college do public lecture series so worth a search?

Or just take a book into a nice pub and have a few pints of Guinness and relax.

Seconding Whelans. There's some band on tonight (never heard of them) and it's a great venue or a bar for a pint downstairs.

There used to be an ace reggae and dub club just off O'connell Street fifteen years ago, just opposite ALDI

Take a wander up to the Cobblestone in Smithfield. They do live music and it's far enough away from the tourists to keep it authentic. I love the place.

If you're into beer, although hardly an Irish institution, the Conrad hotel at Earlsfort Terrace has 33 good beers on draft.

Cobblestone is good. Grogan's toasties are legendary(with me at least) and the crowd in there is interesting enough in itself...

Nealons on Capel Street is a proper nice bar. Get in there. The two Smithfield pubs have something of a reputation.

L Mulligan Grocer! It's very close.

You won't be disappointed. Cracking beer list too.

Thanks for the suggestions

I went to Mulligans for some food then took in a bit of music at the Cobblestone

Great evening and refreshingly off the tourist trail

BMW Stabiliser, you need to adjust your Gaydar mate. I know we're a lot more tolerant as a society now so it's less of an issue but I'm actually straight

Cheers all

Good stuff sporticus!

(btw, I think thestabiliser may have been referring to the fact that Smithfield is a slightly rough area)

I really liked the Kick-Ass Cafe in Temple Bar.

Errrrrr I'm taking that as a either that nealons has gone pink (it's been a while so entirely possible) or that you think I thought that the cobblestones is a gay bar/intolerant to gays, which it isn't. But I was more meaning that it and (more so) the bar a couple of doors down have a rep for people with a 'strong opinion on the Ulster issue'.
