[Closed] Tipping the pizza dude, in the digital age

Takeaway tips are usually easy. Pizza dude arrives. Asks for £18. You give him a £20 note and say 'keep the change, mate'.

Everyone's happy. Easy transaction. You take your pizza, cat meat, and cheesy chips, and you go eat.

But this is the 21st century and we're in the middle of a digital revolution.

So, you go online, order your food on Just Eat, pay by card...

...

Pizza dude arrives an hour later. What happens now?

Clambering in my pocket for a quid feels a bit less casual, and more like giving money to the homeless. I almost feel they'd be offended by this charity. Have Just Eat already factored in a tip in the cost, or has the pizza dude just walked away with his tail between his legs? What's the correct etiquette here?

This is STW so the vast majority of us premier users have our own wood fired pizza oven and we make our own pizza using 00 stone ground flour and Buffalo mozzarella, vine grown tomatoes followed by a drizzle of cold pressed extra virgin olive oil and finally a little bit of shredded rocket on top.

😉

I get my mozzarella from my neighbour's buffalo herd.

True story. (No, really, it is!)

I'm a known tipper, and won't order from Just Eat / online unless I know I have a couple of quid to give to whoever brings it round.

I just say 'this is for you' and hand it over.

No awkwardness. I have waited on tables, done deliveries and pulled enough pints to know that I will continue to do it.

This is what I'm saving up my tips for 🙂

No option for digital tips? That's how I do it with Deliveroo

Most middle class euphemism ever.

Most just-eat companies add £2-2.50 for delivery - that is the tip imho

Reach in my pocket for cash just like I would do if I was to pay for the pizza by cash if I hadn't paid online. You just made it sound very much more dramatic.

People still order takeout delivered?

Are your cooking skills that bad?! 😀

Also tips- why do people assume a persons pay level? Do we base everything on US film stories?

Cynical- he's probably cash in hand and bloody claiming..

No but they've factored in paying the person to do that job.

You want to give someone a tip...give them some cash, it's simple.

Justeat have the option of paying on delivery, if the former option is just too stressful.
