[#10527979]

The last couple of weeks we've been bothered by the daily appearance of a few extremely irritating tiny black flies /gnats that are determined to enter the nose/ears or eyes. They're not fruit flies etc and are notable by their persistence in entering an orifice ! I am unable to find where they come from ( suspect plant soil?) and reluctantly kill them daily but they keep reappearing in small numbers particularly in the morning when I'm on the laptop etc. It's only 2 or 3 a day but they're very annoying and I don't think I've had the trouble before so would anyone know what they're likely to be and where they may reside or be coming from.
thanks !
Bill

Have you scratched something on your back? Might be worth checking.

Google 'fungus gnats'. They seem to match.

Brain Fleas.

They crawl into head orifices and lay eggs. The maggots burrow into your brain.

Nothing to worry about. I've had them for years and it has never banana.

You'd be upset if someone didn't let you in your own house.

Chinese microdroneswarms from the (near) future. They recharge on the electric field emitted via more recent USB 3.0 ports.

They are called eye gnats. I have encountered them in huge swarms in eastern Europe and on the Black Sea particularly in forested areas. Bulgaria is particularly horrendous for them.

I've no idea why you have them in your house; I've never heard of that before in the UK.

Good luck. They are an utter pain in the ass.

Black Fly (the clue's in the name), common in North America and tend to go for anything moist (eyes, mouth, sweat).

seems like BWD is right .Fungus gnats ....

The autumn sciarid fly (fungus gnat) season is about to be upon us. Fungus gnats are at their most active in September and March, which means that larvae are growing and pupating in August and February.
Generally. It is the adult flies that are the biggest nuisance due to their habit of flying in an erratic manner around people’s heads. They do not settle and when waved away return almost immediately. The flies are often confused with midges and mosquitoes and falsely accused by people in the vicinity of causing insect bites. In fact, their mouth parts are not able to penetrate human skin.

These appear at work when the lazy bloke empties his tea dregs into the plants. Once he’s been chastised and the plants dry out, they disappear.

you’ll have an over watered plant somewhere I wager.

(and yes, they want in your mouth and nothing will stop them short of death)
