Personally, I'd just walk on - it's just not worth challenging scrotes these days. If you don't get knifed you'll probably get arrested.

A bloke I know recently got his head smacked in by a teeny tosser for telling him to keep it down outside his house. The bloke is someone I wouldn't mess with myself, but the fearlesness of your average ned these days seems to extend beyond what I would have considered acceptable 'cockyness' in my day.

1) riding a motorbike along the road one of a bunch of kids kicks a football at me and hits me.

I u turn the bike, go over to the laughing swaggering kids, grab the one who kicked the ball by the front of the shirt and shout at until he looks scared. Push him off the wall onto his back. The other kids laugh at him. No harm done to him but just maybe he will think twice about doing this again. around 16 yrs old

2) kids threw a water bomb at me and fled on their bikes - I was on mine. I chased them shouting at them until they fled in fear - they were not laughing they suddenly thought that they might get their heads kicked in. Again once I saw they had a scare then I left them alone.

Both assaults and IMO it's concerning that you consider these acceptable, proportionate and non-criminal.

I think the point here is that if throwing a snowball is assault (which in most cases I doubt) no copper/Fiscal is EVER going to prosecute anyone for it.

Kids throw snowballs at strangers, I don't think it's a bad thing or a big deal.

If you snowballed your wife this morning, that's the kind of thing you need to keep to yourself or share on a completely different forum. Unless you have pictures...

Its that attitude that allows the scrotes to get away with it. Its rubbish as well

Clearly an assault in the first case, less clear in the second but also clearly proportionate to the offence. No injury or harm - just a good scare to the scrotes

Throwing snowballs at strangers is also clearly an assault, can be very dangerous and is clearly criminal. I am astonished anyone thinks it is acceptable.

I'm not suggesting that throwing snowballs at moving vehicles is ok. It's difficult to judge the driver in such a situation. It could be dangerous. Though some plausible estimation would indicate otherwise.

And none of those articles you cite indicate that throwing of snowballs would be seen as assault. The point being made is that putting stones in them, or throwing 'iceballs' or throwing them at cars may incur the wrath of the law. In fact, the point is made that trying to curb kids throwing snowballs is an over-reaction.

CharlieMungus,

what would your reaction be if said scrotes threw a nice compacted icy snowball right in your wifes face?

Snowball fights are great fun, but only if everyone involved is actually playing. My boy is only two weeks old, but I will tan his hide if I catch him snowballing strangers when he is older. Where do you draw the line? Old people? Disabled?

I got one in the windscreen when driving past the local corned beef island, so as i was in the disco i piled straight over the kerb & 'tried' to run them over, a few fell over and i did actually nearly hit one, they shat themselves, funny as ****.

So when me and the lads fill buckets with snow balls then drive around in a four wheel drive pelting snowballs at people walking the streets, that's ok, right?

Yes, clear recklessness as to harm TJ, and therefore an assault. Chasing is an assault in Scots law also. Inducing fear may well be an assault, it can certainly be a breach of the peace.

"clearly proportionate" how on earth have you established that?

If a copper had watched you he'd have a quiet word with the kids ("scrotes"? clear bias!) and a much more stern approach to you.

Of course throwing a snowball CAN be an assault, irrespective of the victim's gender, 🙄 but 99 times out of 100 it's a bit of a laugh and PEOPLE NEED TO LIGHTEN UP.

Clearly proportionate - the kids in both cases they assaulted me first - the football one dangerous as it could have had me off the bike. In return I throw a good scare into them. These were teenagers around 16 - not young children.

Knowing the cops around here I would be very surprised if any action was taken against me - and I would have had the defence of provocation.

I am content with my actions. I didn't punch or hurt either of them. It was one of me with half a dozen of them. I needed to be loud and assertive

IIRC Al you are afraid to use the cyclepaths for fear you might meet a scrote.

There is nothing funny about being hit by a snowball when walking along the road minding your own business. Its a simple assault. Its aniotisocial behaviour and needs all members of the community to enforce the fact it is not acceptrable

There were 5 or 6 burly teenagers throwing snowballs at people in our street yesterday. I popped up to the loft, out of the velux, prepared some ammunition and let rip. They couldn't work out where it was coming from. Go one of the sods right in the ear with a hard icy ball
😆

Iceball - see above

Besides the op, was hit on the (back of the?) head by a snowball. We are talking about snowballs, why are folks talking about stones and iceballs?

Anyway, as i said earlier Assault is all about the perception. So for those of you frightened of snowballs, then yes it is assault. For others, then no. End of. Surely

Who are you to decide what others find acceptable or not? Clearly quite a few folks here think it is acceptable.

maybe write

Its aniotisocial behaviour and needs all members of the community to enforce the fact [s]it is not[/s] i do not find it acceptrable

to be honest tazz, your comments about my typos were quite hurtful. I lost some fingers in 'action' a few years back and am quite aware that people often judge me on my typing skill rather than what I have to say.

but to be fair, i thought this was pretty good

CharlieMungus,

your wife is now in tears and you are scratching around on the ground to make a snowball?!

As I said, it is all good fun when it's you and your mates, but hitting random strangers isn't on. Some people find happy slapping amusing too!

No you would not! Dream on!

IIRC Al you are afraid to use the cyclepaths for fear you might meet a scrote.

One of many reasons I don't use them is that I've felt intimidated yes, I don't see how that's relevant.

Bagstard I might be pissed off but I'm not going to go assaulting anyone!

Cm sorry, it's just that having "wok" in a thread about fatties and "ned" in a thread about chavy yobbos was brilliant. I wasn't sure if it was pure chance or pure grand subtle genius. Xx

It shows you attitude Al - you are so fearful you will not use the cyclepath. I am prepared to stand up for myself and do not live in fear of scrotes.

This colours your attitude to the question in case here.

I think throwing a scare into teenagers behaving antisocially is perfectly reasonable and acceptable - better than wasting police time.

My nan makes a wicked snowball glace cherries the lot. And though it'd the gayest drink on the planet I'd never throw one at anyone.
