I don't frequent this place enough to make an impression, and to me, that is a good thing! It's just a bit of fun. Can't imagine hanging about on everybodies word on here. but sometimes real human emotions come through and I cannot help but respond to those. This forum is amazing though imo. And despite financial interests, the mods need to chill out or lose what makes this forum special.
Surely the great thing about stw is that we can take each others opinions and ideas about life on board, have a think and maybe change
aye but that requires debate and an exchange of ideas - often repetitive and often full of folk who like arguing or debating- what would you expect. I assume the rugby thread get folk who like rugby - I dont can I call them names?

I was sure i did put some context in that thread however what i meant was I dont care for rugby, cars or the who would you do from the tv threads. Therefore I dont open them and dont call the participators sad because they like different things from me

I have to say, I have no interest in this thread. However I'm trying to cultivate a more compassionate way of thinking, so I'm out on the 'everyone is sad/stupid and idiot etc' bit... 😉

I'm not reading all the above from a load of sad idiots. In fact this whole thread is pointless.
Just a couple of points on the various cheery accusations flying about:
1) It's not easy striking a balance between letting a conversation flow and stopping it from getting out of hand. The forum rules have a specific clause about the 'friday Kylie' type threads, posts of a sexual nature and things which are likely be construed as offensive. As far as I'm aware though, there aren't any rules against having outrageous opinions, which is probably just as well.
We try to be consistent and fair, and discussions take place behind the scenes when we're unsure about something. Ultimately though, the place is supposed to be accessible and welcoming to everyone, and when every third thread is a page full of cleavage or debates about Catholics being rapists it gives the forum a certain 'flavour' which isn't necessarily a desirable image. I like boobage and theological debates as much as the next red-blooded atheist, but everything in, er, moderation hey?
2) There are fewer mods than you think, and more complaints / requests / questions / petulant pissing than you think. The volunteers are putting in a huge amount of work to try and improve this little community. As should be apparent from my posting history I'm not adverse to a bit of teasing (and I totally expect some for this post), but please give a little thought to your posts before you start throwing round accusations of things like racism and hypocrisy.
TL;DR: play nice.

To be fair to JY and JB (there might have been some confusion over who was posting what as they both were and their names are easily confused) I didn't disagree with everything he was saying and I did empathise with where he was coming from.
JY - can I just apologise for calling you a moron. Wasn't the right thing to do.
My Catholic background is hard to shake off sometimes and despite the shit I had to go through as a result of it, many people I know and care for are still in the 'church'. So even now as an atheist, it's pretty hard to let go.
JY can we both agree that the leadership of the catholic church is guilty as all hell if we can also agree that the statement 'rapists do well in the catholic church' was perhaps ill advised.
And if not, just say and we'll say no more about it.

Improve it, according to who.
The forum is its members. If the rules are broken then fair enough but the thread about who you have a fancy for and shouldnt didnt not break any rules. If a pic appears then its not difficult to remove the pic.
If its a community then it has to run as one, start down the road of stopping threads that shouldnt and it will come to an end sooner than you realise.
I think it was Joolsburger who made the comments and who I called the moron so JB - apologies and ditto to the above.

3 of the threads I've commented on have ended up being locked. This has happened after certain individuals became abusive, instead of accepting that someone else might have a differing opinion to theirs. Lively debate is one thing; abuse is just childish and stupid. If you've nothing more intelligent or constructive to say than calling someone a 'bell-end' etc simply for having a different opinion, then you invalidate yourself as a person capable of rational and sensible debate. And you mark yourself out as a bit inadequate really. People resort to abuse when they've got nothing left.
Can we ban the future use of the phrase 'I have no useful contribution to make'?

Again i would not be here but for modding [ though i have experienced the power of the hammer and doubtless will again] and i am not sure what we really expect from them.
There are load of us here we agree on nothing be it what tyre or what thread to keep so its not hard to see why they will always be some of us annoyed with them.
Someone makes the rules and we may agree or disagree but they will still be making the rules and we will still disagree

To be fair, on one of them, you were the subject of abuse as you were being pretty rude repeatedly questioning someone's professional integrity. To the extent of demanding 'proof' (bit like Trump demanding Obama's birth cert). You went too far IMO hence the 'feedback' you received.
