Someone has driven into my pride and joy, my 1965 Beetle called Otis, and then driven off without leaving a note. I can't believe they could have not realised they had done it so that makes them pretty low in my book. I was so angry that I almost cried.

people who drive into stationary objects as large and as obvious as a parked car should be looking at being charged with driving without due care and attention anyway.

standard of driving on our roads is scary.

Statistically, "our roads" are some of the safest in Europe.

OP - That's a shit trick - easy fix though by the looks...

🙁

Unbelievable what some people do.

Hope it can be easily fixed... is it just the bonnet that's damaged?

That's quite high, well above the bumper. Looks like a truck or pick-up that's done it.

Trying to avoid the obvious puerile joke, will that not just pop out again, or is the paint damaged?

Pride and joy? You already had the number plate held on with a zip tie 🙂

It's a crap thing to happen, but if the paint isn't broken a PDR guy will have that back in shape no problem. Chrome trim looks unbent as well.

😯

To recap, some dude's damaged the OP's car and driven off... I'd say the OP has every right to feel upset and angry.

I was homicidal for at least a day after some scroat knackered by rear wheel arch on the same day that some (presumably other) git tore off my wing mirror as he sped down our street.

Relying on my new self help book to help you through this;

Scenario: Someone has dented your car
Reaction: Its not all bad but it is annoying, no one is hurt, and it can be fixed
Emotion: You have every right to be angry, but that won't help the situation and will promote stress and anxiety
Revised reaction; Accept what is done, and that you cannot control what happends to you in life, nor will things in your life work as you expect them to.
Revised scenario: Someone has dented your car, but you are calmly able to accept that you now should get it fixed.

I bet you feel better after that, eh? 😀

I had a '63 with 6v and cross-ply tyres, until changed to a 12v 1971, which had it's VW badge nicked during the craze, bugger!
If I win lottery want to restore '63...dream on, looks like a great car you have there.

Put this in perspective.
My bil was knocked of his bike. Left for dead in the road, and nearly died. 3 weeks in brain injuries unit, and now deaf for live in his right ear. Among other injuries.
That's a car. A ****ING CAR.
Go too the next vw auto jumble, buy bonnet, spray bonnet, fixed. About 200 quid.
It's not the end of the road is it.
Losing several pints of blood from the side of your head could be.
So forgive my lack of sympathy op.
But it's an inanimate object. Fix it.

@uselesshippy.

Something shit happenign to someone else you've never heard of doesn't necessarily mean that you don't feel angry if someone damages your property and leaves you to pick up the bill.

No, you are right, I wouldn't feel a bad as I did when my bil stood in front of an express train and my sister phoned me asking how she was going to tell their two under 12 children that Daddy was dead but I'd still be cross if it was me.

So, rather than just going for the 'worse things happen at sea' approach maybe think 'actually in the course of most peoples day to day lives it's probably a ball ache they could do without'.

I have to confess that personally I don't think I've ever been angry upon seeing a beetle bonnet 😉

Find them and burn them.
That's a decent ding and they must have felt it.
Some people don't recognise the emotional attachment to old VWs and just see it as an old banger.
So find them and burn them.

@uselesshippy

To. Not too. Btw just because people die and get hurt in life does not mean that all other problems become irrelevant and cannot be discussed.

Are you saying that nothing annoys you other than hit and runs now?

@Mister P

Bum deal, I'd be seething too.

You got my sympathy.If someone dented my VW van I'd be well cheesed off. It may be a work horse but has lots of great memories from weekend useage. Its just plain rude unless I backed into a BMW.

I don't think even she would stoop that low Klunk. She certainly didn't do it in her Mini, it probably would have come off worse than the Beetle.

Unlucky. However there is a positive to this.If the car is gonna get damaged at all at least the panel can be replaced hopefully. Same may not be true of other body panels which would deffo require a bodyshop. Think I'd be on ebay looking for a spare one, if they are around. Then there's a bit painting required. You may even be able to take the dent out yourself??
Think there's ways of doing it. Also you may find someone skilled enough to do this.

Looks like a slow push/press rather than a sharp jolt that's caused it.

Hardluck though..

I recon someone skilled could knock that back out if it's not creased.Might be worth making some phone calls. Might not come out perfect and you'd know it's there but I doubt others would notice it from front on.

In the time it takes to read this thread, the bonnet could be popped, and the dent kicked out.
Or shall we all just chip in for a few hours on the shrinks couch to get over the grief of getting a dent in a car?

if this issue is way up the list of bad stuff in your life, you are doing OK mate. It's a shilly thing for someone to do but get some perspective, get it fixed and move on.
