Up for the weekend to sample some fine single malts on Saturday so any ideas for culture and stuff to do for a Friday afternoon and weekend mornings?

Staying down Leith Walk, will be armed with camera and probably a hangover

Visit "TJ's Museum of Trolls"

(He has a collection of them!)

As an aside, where is the loveable old curmudgeon?

Walk along the Water of Leith, can go for miles if you want.

Nice wee walk up Calton Hill, some interesting monuments to photograph.

The botanic gardens are nice to wander around on a sunny day.

You could get the train to Glasgow.

Can't say it's a place I've been to much tbh, nice looking city though, Most times I've been through are to Tynecastle or Easter road.

Other than that, went though one day for a jaunt up arthurs seat, then down to the grassmarket for some beer and food, that was a good wee day out. And I've taken a wander round the national art gallery when I was through for work at lunch time once, that was nice.

Beyond that, no use! Does seem like a city you could easily wander about and amuse your self though.

Pentlands are nice, but you're better of with a bike for those

ps, make sure you get the quick train through to Glasgow! 😆

Some things we've done

Bus or tram to Murrayfield & walk the Waters of Leith walk for a few pint down by the sea (nice if its hot as its well shaded & passes close to some nice pubs)

Train over the Forth bridge to North Queensferry & walk back over the road bridge to South Queensferry, nice pubs under each end of the rail bridge.

Train to Falkirk & walk along the canal to the Falkirk wheel.

Live music at Whistlebinkies or Bannermans.

Avoid the touristy tat & anything that mention tartan!

Scottish National Gallery of Art if you like that stuff, walking distance from Princess st, the museum right up to the top for views over the city, Arthurs seat mobbed at the weekend, Dean village then walk either to Stockbridge or down to Leith, Avoid the Royal Mile all tartan and shortbread or go in the evening when the shops are shut, good photo of the castle walking around it towards the Grassmarket, easy place to walk and if you get knackered cheap bus back to Leith

Scottish national gallery of modern art.  Opposite side of city centre to Leith walk so a bit of a trek.  Water of Leith walk would pretty much take you straight there.

yeah modern art gallery and mooch down to the river and around Dean village, lovely bit of town.

Arthurs Seat always good for the views

Go round and help TJ wire his attic

Walk round the city admiring the litter and dried vom

Not familiar with Leith walk really but Woodland creatures on leith walk is quite a nice boozer. Spey lounge if you fancy a mild stabbing

Hire a bike and get down the golfiy it's fantastic at the moment

As above follow water of leith path up to the gallery of modern art should take an hour from the shore.

Then jump a bus head up town. Sightsee few beers back to leith for good food and a last beer.

Take the train down to North Berwick and spend an afternoon on the beach or climb up the law. Edinburgh is beautiful , I often realise this when getting the airport bus back to the waverley after foreign holidays.
