Well. Kinda. One chap decided to make a statue of William Wallace, and figured he might as well make him look like Mel Gibson, since pictures of the real Wallace vary quite a lot. Then he leased it to Stirling council (for a nominal sum IIRC) who put it up near the Wallace Monument. But it's gone now, and no bugger'll buy it.
I think he was probably trying to cash in on the film, rather than trying to celebrate William Wallace. Rubbish statue either way.
Is the statue not in a car park just along from where some of the scenes in the movie were filmed?
Last I heard, he'd fitted it at his workshop because not even Donald Trump wanted it.
I bet Gibson's well chuffed with that statue.
