Got off to a flier at PMQ's demolished Corbyn
My nan could do that and shes been dead 20 years!
I liked her speech to the Police Federation a couple of years back.
How about this for a bonkers scenario, doesn't call Article 50 because the 3 musketeers cant get a good deal, waits until we are involved in some kind of conflict to hide the news that we aren't going to leave Europe. Population have been beaten down by the events leading up to conflict and just shrug. 3 musketeers disposed of along with the right wing of the party
Bonkers? I'd say it's overwhelmingly the most likely scenaro.
As said above: If Brexit works well and becomes popular, May takes credit. If it fails in any sense of the word the 3 amigos get blame.
Now she's back from the mountains, there's a difficulty ahead with the usual pro/anti Europe split in her party over Brexit.
Her biggest weapon to stiffen her authority is calling a snap election.
Bye bye Jeremy...
You do know we have fixed term parliaments and she cannot just call an election - technically the PM cannot one full stop now
The only realistic parliamentary method is for her own MP's to support a vote of no confidence in her that they bring to the house
THat will be interesting to explain to the public
I am sure if she could do this easily she would before Europe starts to wound her party

Snap election unlikley not least as with fixed term Parliaments it's hard to do. Would require a contrived vote of no confidence. Tories already have a majority and in ay case Labour show no signs of turining a corner so they'll be in worse shape in 2017 and thereafter.
Theresa is looking very much like a leader who does what she says. Been reported she has the legal confirmation (obvious imo) she does not have to have a Parliamentary vote before Artcile 50. French Presidential election in 2017 imo will between Sarkozy (UMP) and Le Penn (FN) both far more Eurosceptic than we have ever seen in France before - Le Penn is speaking about a Referendum on membership of the euro (French are complaining euro borrowing rules are forcing them into more austerity plus people are increasingly aware they are on the hook for Greece etc). merkel too faces re-election and there is a groundswell that says she should stand down and not even run for re-election. This creates an interesting backdrop to Article 50. Theresa can choose to wait and see.
Personally I want the Government to crack on with the manifesto commitment to create a Brirish Human Rights Bill with our courts supreme. Together with Brexit prep and Fox's world trade initiative that should be the priority for the next 3 months.
D'you think she'll make some comedy policy announcements and try a really risibly stupid spin video so we can all engage in expressions of hilarity at her childish incompetence?
Oh, hang on...
Did you see how bad the trains where in Switzerland ? She was forced to walk 😀
You do know that the ECHR is nothing to do with the EU? You are aware of the concept of universality in the context of human rights and as such the importance of an international court to oversee there application universally (or at least across those member states of the Council of Europe).
For those concerned about the threat to the Human Rights Act, take some time to visit Amnesty International's web site and sign up to their petition.
Tricky. Not impossible.
basically what I said
she has the legal confirmation (obvious imo)
I think the courts are the best place to decide this rather than the govt legal advice and what you think- neither is impartial.
Its still very unclear that she can do this
IMHO she is pressing ahead with brexit for the following reasons
1. She knows the Mps will oppose her and wont pass a bill
2. She can then keep tory eurosceptics on side as she tried and tory europhiles as she did ot exit
3. SHe may negotiate a deal then have another referendum once we have negotiated an exit deal.
Brexit remains the most likely but nothing would surprise me
Who knows what her legacy, will be, she did steer the home office through a series of very public cock ups, but somehow survived.
Cameron's entire career reduced to simply being remembered as the nation's biggest loser, must loom large over her.
Hence why she picked the 3 most desperate for a 2nd chance politicians she could find in her cabinet (apart from Gove, obvs) to sort out the impossible task of a clean Brexit break
She'd surely be bonkers to take us out of the ECHR and one of Churchill's gratest legacies at the same time tho ?
@Nipper A UK Human Rights Act with UK court as the highest authority. Job done. As for ECHR not being anything to do with the EU, that doesn't tell the whole story as withdrawing is untested as EU has refused to answer the question when asked simoly saying if we did so they wouod consider their responce at the time. It's highly likely they would try and block any such exit although of course now they have no leverage with us as we are leaving anyway. I have no issue with the ECJ being the final authority on an EU trade dispute but thats the be all and end all.
@kimbers Cameron is a Tory hero, PM for 5 years with Lib Dems in tow, first Conservative majority in 18 years, brave enough to give us a Referendum on the EU. A true democrat giving the Scots a Referendum too and refused to enter Syrian conflict without Parliament support, something he was not required to get.
I wouldn't say rhe ECHR was one of Churchill's greatest legacies. In any case the creeping sovereignty of the EU has turned the ECHR into something it was never intended to be. Churchill believed a United States of Europe would stop the French and Germans going to war with each other as each country would dissapear. There is not a snowballs chance in hell he intended for us to be part of it, he saw us an independent nation with a global influence and more closely aligned with the US
BTW can I ask how the family are ?
