"It's much more than getting on the bike, the bike didn't go that far. 'Get on the jet'."

I think you'll get more mileage out of this one rather than your slective quoting.
His statement was directed at bosses and not the general working population, you're perfectly safe sitting on ar5e and doing nothing.
I suppose you're altenative solution, providing you have one, is to do nothing and wait for someone else to come up with a solution.
Be careful kids, this could be the well thought out ideas of one of your teachers!! 😯

No I'm just waiting for the trickle down effect to kick in from all the hedge fund managers and investment bankers we bailed out. They are the real wealth generators and growth creators of this country and they still seem to be doing great, so it should be any day now.

Don yet again you feel the need to critise my ability to do my job.
It always seems to be the right wingers on here who make things personnal maybe you lack the ability to understanding things or empathise with anyother viewpoint.

Strip out the word "only" and he talks a lot of common sense especially the decades of declining work ethics, living on expanded debt forever. Just need to look at how much posting goes on here during normal work hours. 😉

Where?
I have made a point of mentioning that some badly thought out rant has come from a teacher and that a person in such a position of responsisbilty might want to think about the profession they're representing.
It always seems to be the right wingers on here who make things personnal maybe you lack the ability to understanding things or empathise with anyother viewpoint.

Yet again you feel the need to talk about things of which you have absolutely no idea. 😀
I thought it was only the public sector that didnt work hard enough

You didn't get any further than the headline, did you? 😆
Carry on...

Perhaps ordinary working people feel less motivated to work hard when an ever increasing share of the pot goes to those at the very top regardless, and when a recession hits it's only those at the bottom that are forced to make sacrifices.

don simon - are you always trolling or just not a very pleasant person (put as politely as possible)?

Neither, I think you'll find I just have a different POV, deal with it, it's not a biggie.

Badly thought out rant? All i did was quote Hague and say it was a stupid idiotic thing to say. Why do you feel the need to make comments regarding my job? Are you unable to hold a normal conversation/discussion?

It seems that a_a cannot post on a thread these days without somebody (and it's always the same group of people) mentioning his job and his ability to do it - and then justifying it using waffle and bullshit. You know you're doing it.

Grim, very true for most people I would say, but doesn't alter the fact. Times are tough, we need to work harder. Basic common sense. (The recession has hit more than just those at the bottom, but I take your point. )

There's quite a lot of people who have a different view to me who I don't consider to be arseholes.

So was mine and I would politely ( 😉 ) disagree. The whole article is on the DT website (yes the DT!!!!) as is an editorial that summarises Hague's views as follows: "he is making a subtler statement than it may at first appear. He is emphasising, correctly, that our economic destiny is in our own hands. We, not just Government officials or politicians, are responsible for our country's success or failure."

I would re--write that as, We, rather that Government officials or politicians of any party....

So, in essence, we're all in it together really.

Y'know, someone should pick that up and run with it as a slogan or somesuch.

Indeed A-A, the tyranny of the headline makers!!!

Perhaps he should have said, "governments and politicians are very successful at implementing strategies to address the past while individuals and businesses look after the future!"

And with 6 weeks before Greece runs out of money, looks like we will all be working a lot harder for a lot less very soon!

have a mate who work as an IT troubleshooter for the dwp

from what he says it truly is an omnishambles
one of the biggest problems is that the ministers office keeps setting targets based on political goals, which are essentially impossible to acheive resulting in an endless cycle of screwups and spiralling costs
