Wow, what an absolutely incredible tale.

I wonder what's on wiki about it? I'll be looking later.

Never head of those events before soma and thanks so much for posting.

A real tonic to read in these times.

The book that this comes from seems interesting:
https://www.theguardian.com/books/2020/may/09/rutger-bregman-our-secret-superpower-is-our-ability-to-cooperate

When I read something like this I always think "how come nobody has ever told me about this before?"
It's like when I first picked up a book about dinosaurs at school, aged about 8. I couldn't believe that they'd been teaching me all that rubbish when something so important and exciting had never been even mentioned: monsters were real!

I read the article yesterday, fascinating. The book sounds interesting, hard not to jump to the conclusion that it's going to be similar to Sapiens, in that the reason we are successful as a species is our ability to collaborate, and that the reason we can collaborate is because we can create and tell stories.

I vaguely remember hearing something about this years ago but not in so much detail, that's a great story.

I''d still paint myself and carry a spear everywhere though😊

Given the positive nature of the comments I'm assuming no-one sharpened a stick at both ends.

I'll give this a read later, thanks for the link.

Do we think kids today would be able to survive? I rather suspect not....

Hopefully more and more of this stuff is going to be written as we crawl our way out from the likes of Jared (I'm not a racist, honestly) Diamond and Richard (All my friend call me Curmudgeon) Dawkins.

What’s wrong with being a curmudgeon? And what has Diamond done that makes him racist? Genuine question, not a snide attack. I’ve read some of his stuff - I thought it was interesting, but it didn’t occur to me that anything I read was racist. What did I miss?

Cheers Soma.

Sounds like this should be a good read:

**** Jared Diamond

@easily, here's a flavour of the many many critical articles of Mr Diamond. There's any number of this sort of stuff in the many anthropology research journals worldwide.

Thanks enjoy that.
It remained me of the festival in Panama that got locked down in march. I think 40 are still there.

And this is why I love this place, I'd missed that story.  The world is not so bad, sometimes

I’d seen something about this story pop up on Flipboard the other day, but I hadn’t got around to reading it, so thanks for posting it, remarkable story, and a pity it isn’t more widely known about nowadays.
