£3.50-£4 for a pint of cider near nearby on the outskirts of Bristol, or £4.50-£5 in the centre.

Certainly miss the £1.80 pints in the Cardiff Uni SU that provided my hydration until a couple of years ago.

I’ve never understood why the draft beer in Sinclair’s has always minged.

It's not cask conditioned for a start. It's the only SS pub I know that sells keg OB.
Just taking the piss out of its main punters, student and footy fans, if you ask me. I'll leave them to it...

Stop whining. A 'Stora Stark' here is easily 60 SEK and if you want something hipster you can be paying up to 90 SEK. Even the folköl can be over 20 SEK for a 330ml bottle or can.

That's not just here in the big city either, Uppsala is just as expensive if you are out at a bar.

It's why I rarely drink and, when I do, it's at home with friends over a meal.

Went to leaving drink in C London Friday night. Pub served Moretti so asked for a pint. It's not what I'd call an exotic beer, just a staple beverage in Italy. £5.70
It's not like there's a price label on the pumps either. Horrific. At least I had another reason to leave early

3 pints of your choice for a fiver in Tesco Express, drunk in the comfort of your own home 🙂

When I worked in the City, I used to frequent The Old Bell Tavern in Fleet Street. I remember being horrified when I was no longer able to buy 4 pints for a fiver....

Stop whining

Funnily enough I was in Copenhagen and Malmo last week. I found Malmo a lot cheaper - went to the Street Food Market, but the interesting thing was all the beer there was under 3.5% .A flat 40 SEK (£3.30) for draught. But then saw a cafe with stronger beers, and they were heading to the 60-70 SEK.

In Copenhagen even the weakest Euro pish was about 50 DKK (£6) a pint (a "special offer" at Tivoli for the football was 300 DKK for 6 - including 5 DKK recycling on each 'glass'). So that's still £6 each. For carlsberg.

Went to Mikeller - and excellent though it was, it was pushing 90 DKK a large can - over a tenner.

Petec, as I understand it, the state monopoly on alcohol (System Bolaget) obliges people selling drinks with alcohol above a certain level to have a minimum price that cannot be less than their selling price. I also think that, less than 3.5%, the tariff is a lot lower, so beer is cheaper.

That said, Folköl (the 3.5% and below stuff, as opposed to Lättöl (lower than that - see Pripps Blå...)) is really good. Depending on where you are in the country you can get a lot of really nice local beers. Howsyourdad has one of the best breweries (Jämtlands) up near him and some of the new ones near me (Uppsala) are really good. Tempel Brygghus is one that specialises in sour beers and makes some great beers.

Oh the beer in Malmo was very pleasant. IPAs, APAs, Weisse, Mini Weisse etc. Lovely hot day, so all went down well.

was just pleasantly surprised. I'm used to needing a second mortgage to get a round in anywhere in Sweden.

Our local is typically over £4.50 for Guinness and the 'premium' lagers. Have some good micro pubs around us though that are £3.50 ish for great micro brewery beers. The increasing prices do not however seem to slow down consumption overall in my opinion, quite how some of the locals sink what they do on a nightly basis I'll never know.

The problem with Holts' is that the bitter is usually rubbish because everyone drinks diamond (if it were fresh and the line was clean I reckon it would be ok). I usually drink the bottles of 1860 that they have in the fridges next to the j20 alike.

I expect to be charged anything from 3-5quid, Manchester is crazy price sometimes

Are pubs still required by law to have the prices printed on a sheet somewhere ? You used to go in and the first thing you'd do is look for the picture frame with the prices on, printed in the tiniest typeface !

the hipster bars can be outrageous prices but at least they have them listed in fake chalk

Mate of mine won over £600 on the horses on Friday so decides he'll buy us all a drink to celebrate - 12 pints of Guinness @ Twickenham on Saturday - £84!

Hmmm I think I’m too cheap. £3.90 draught Belhaven Best and premium cider, £4.20 Trade Winds from Cairngorm Brewery and we are in the middle of nowhere in The Highlands!

At the stadium? You'd have got seven quid returned if you took your glasses back...

When I have seen the prices it's been for cans or bottles in the trendy Manchester bars the work lads want to drink, so I'm not even getting a full pint and the going rate seems to be about a fiver.

But I get out for a pint so infrequently that I don't really know or care how much the beer costs. I just order a round a wave my card at the machine.

That is not “a pint” though is it!!

When you pour it into a pint pot, it's about the same as a 'pint' in most pubs...

A large Pinot in a pub 4 miles away, £6.50.

That’s less than £20 a bottle, which is pretty cheap.

Not read all the above, but if supermarket booze wasn't so cheap the drinks in pubs wouldn't seem so expensive.

I live in Yukon Territory and the beer is the same price straight from the brewery as it is in the pub or the liquor store. It isn't cheap, either.

Here in inner city East Bristol I pay around £3.50 for a decent ale in the decent pub, or about £2.30 for a slightly ropey pint of Wickwar's BOB in the slightly ropey pub.

Or about £4.50 if I head into town...

Here in North Sheffield, prices are £2.50 a pint in Bradfield brewery tap pubs and £2.50 a pint in stancill brewery tap. Shakespeare on the edge of Kelham Island has abbeydale deception for £2.70 a pint. Can't go wrong round here!!

Do any pubs still actually do this?
