I've often thought about creating a pattented Florenceandthemachine-ator(TM), that instantly turns any tune into something pointlessly shrieky and desperately 'anthemic'. From what I've heard, I think she only ever uses the same 3 chords and a few synthesised digital harps.

To be fair though, she's must have lungs like hot air balloons, the way she belts out some of those shouty bits. Not quite a fan but I do some of their stuff.

They're good shouty bits though. When she was performing with Lightspeed Champion she basically did the job most bands would have a horn section for. Including a tuba. Between Two Lungs has some [i]epic [/i]shouting.

Have to turn off the radio when her songs come on. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard.

I've not heard any of their songs. Anyone want to recommend any so I can experience them?

There y'go - this pretty much will tell you all you need to know. Not bad on its own, but 2 albums later and she seems to be a bit of a one-track pony IMO. I can barely make it through the first album without wanting to go on a killing frenzy, or drive off a cliff out of tired frustration with the [i]desperation[/i] and [i]atmosphere[/i] of it all:

Second one mostly reminds of Peter Gabriel, with extra air-raid sirens.

I turned over from radio 2 as there was utter shit on there the other Friday and she was presenting the Friday night show instead of Annie mac who I quite like, **** me she was an irritating ****! Nearly punched my own radio out!

Florence & the screaming banshee, more like - CBA with that pish anymore!

Bits of Lungs are ace. Kiss with a Fist, Rabbit Heart (album version), My Boy Builds Coffins. Some is OK. Bits are tedious.

Can't quite get my head around Ceremonials though. Seems like some of the rough edge and joy has gone. Music industry machine in full effect.
