Got this on the iPlayer, looking forward to the race a lot. Great circuit and hopefully some decent racing ahead.
Anyone else watching?
Tut tut Mr Hamilton
Adios Lewis!
whoops
that was a bit dim of Hamilton
Come on Jensen 🙂
Facepalm. Ah well, might as well turn the tv off.
I was going to predict that from Hamilton. It was almost inevitable. He had made a set-up mistake so was angry and wanted to win the race on the first lap. He should have been content with overtaking one car.
He could be a the best in the world but until he cuts out the rush of blood mistakes he will not be. Button ain't as fast but makes far fewer mistakes.
Gonna be a good battle Ferrari / Button
i was going to predict everything that has happened from the start of the race as it was almost inevitable, but i thought i'd wait till it actually happened first so i could look wise and everyone will think i'm an F1 expert

Looks like Jenson has ****ed it
Great move by Webber
ffs
Not sure Jensen boobed, more his team being useless muppets with the strategy as usual...

you're right there, although did Jenson put in a fast lap when asked? Didn't look particularly good
I guess he is missing a chunk of his car thanks to one of the Ferraris trying to punt him off at the start, but yeah, I think that Ferrari is teh car for this track
JB fuel saving and his team advertising the pit stop 👿
a quicker pitstop by Ferrari wasn't it?
Massa catching now 😥
button's "barn door" rear wing isn't helping much

losing part of the diffuser courtesy of alonso probably isnt helping much either
glad thats over, immensely dull

yep, half a sec quicker
I hate Alonso
with a big stick
cheating ****
yep, half a sec quicker
+two blistering laps before it.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

were closer now fernando
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
I was so afraid fernando
We were young and full of life and none of us prepared to die
And I’m not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry
There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There’s no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, fernando[/url]
Ah well, might as well turn the tv off.

Quite, Button unfortunately had no answer to it.
I thoroughly enjoyed that race. Mind you, I thoroughly enjoy virtually every F1 race.
From the Championship point of view it could hardly be better. If Hamilton had scored anywhere near Button, or higher, then McLaren would have to get behind him for the remaining races, but now its a little bit more balanced. Plus Vettel gained on Webber only very slightly, so still in the balance at Red Bull too.
Add-in Alonso rising back up and the last six races are going to be mega. Although I really do want Webber to win it, having been a fan since he came to F1, I think Alonso is still a very serious contender and to my mind is the premier F1 driver.
Amusing to see all the 'F1 Fans' on here staying silent on this one, considering the amount of posts when Hamilton is doing well...
Very enjoyable race. Fantastic result for Ferrari and Alonso. Great drive from Button, and great tactics to, to run that big wing. What Button lacks in driving ability (which isn't much), he makes up for in his tactical choices. He is still second in overall ability to Hamilton though.
But seriously, turn the telly off just because Hamilton crashed out? Please..
Vettel pulled something out of the bag, very canny move that. Especially considering that strange engine problem. He might possibly have been able to challenge for a podium if it wasn't for that. Webber stuffed up another start, and if Vettel finds his true form, will slip down the rankings.
Schuey hasn't got it any more. Consistently out-qualified and out-raced by Rosberg. Unless Rosberg is absolutely brilliant, and a WC for the future?
Alonso had to have that one. A bad start, and he's lucky Massa's a good team player. His out lap on cold tyres after pitting was fantastic; sliding it around in the first chicane, no way was he going to let Button through. Would it have been a better fight if it had been Hamilton? Ferrari have had a relatively poor season, but Alonso is showing his real class.
Keeps it all interesting! Best F1 season for years!
Agree with you there, for the most part. Can't accept your Webber assessment though. Like a lot of people you seem pre-determined that he is of average quality - can't see why myself. I've always regarded Mark Webber as exceptional, and I think he is just as fast as Vettel but with a much more mature approach.
Schumacher I'm afraid is discovering how much the game has moved-on. Go back to the late nineties and it was Michael that was re-defining standards of professionalism for F1 drivers - he was fitter, more committed, more technically focused, more complete - now these have become the norm and Nico Rosberg is everything that a top driver in this era needs to be. He was hugely impressive at Williams and he continues to impress. If Schumacher has made an error it is in underestimating Nico Rosberg. Plus Rosberg has been smart enough to just quietly get on with his job and let the driving do the talking.
Good race in terms of setting it up for the rest of the season, but cak race in terms of actual racing.....
Best bit was Weber's scrap with Hulkenberg.
Best bit was Weber's scrap with Hulkenberg.
Best bit would've been Weber's scrap with Hulkenberg if they'd met in the pit lane after the race. My money would've been on the Ozzy there.
Shuey also agreed that his former dominance came after building a team and car around him, and only him. He may be realising that he doesn't have the time or influence to do that with Mercedes this time around. I hope he gets a chance to drive a race winning car next year, just to see him properly scrapping with the next generation.
There's a funny kind of general reluctance to accept that the new generation are actually better than the old. But I think that is in truth the case. Schumacher heralded a new era of quality, for all the reasons I stated above, and now Hamilton, Alonso, Vettel and (yes) Rosberg have moved the bar a little higher. He can point to the car all he likes, but previously one of his talents was driving around problems so it doesn't really wash.

Hamilton's a immature pleb, hence why he crashed out - his move was neither one thing nor the other. He should have either gone flying in and dared Alonso to get out of his way, or bided his time. He sort of bottled it at the last second and got canned.
I think his setup said it all: I have no need for downforce because I have skill in corners. Really? Hmmmm.....
I believe Weber has never won a championship at any level
I don't see Hamilton's error that way at all. Yes, he is wildly optimistic but that is exactly what has got him to where he is now. Sometimes it doesn't work out, and you pay the price. Certainly he benefited massively in his first year from this approach - the other drivers took it pretty easy on him and he really capitalised. He can't get away with it s much now.
Yep, Rosberg was quietly impressive again
I'm warming to Hulkenberg too - I reckon he's got what it takes to go all the way to the top

Pity the race was won by the pitstop, Button drove a great race though.
Motogp is better.
Top tip:
Formula One teams, avoid any sanction whatsoever for breaking the rules by painting your cars red and building them in Italy.
Painting cars silver and building them in Woking will attract a disproportionate punishment for infringements, however.
Change the record... 🙄
Why? It's ruining my appreciation of the sport.
Don't watch it then. Simple really.
All this 'FIA= Ferrari International Assistance' nonsense is just that; nonsense. Unfounded and without any facts to back up what is simply envy for the greatest team in F1. McLaren however have been found guilty of cheating on more than one occasion. Hence sour grapes towards Ferrari from McLaren fans.
Pity the race was won by the pitstop
Strictly speaking it was also won by Alonso being faster than Button, hence being able to turn on the pace when he needed to. Macca strategy was surely pure madness though - an out lap on cold tyres was always bound to be slower than the in lap on old tyres.

Bollocks.
Prost and Senna were both far more complete than Schumacher. The only reason Schumacher did as well as he did is because he had the entire Ferrari team focused on him and his team mate was basically a development driver. Not that it stopped Rubens or Irvine from being quicker occasionally, before they had to let him through. Schumacher would have simply been destroyed at Mclaren with either Prost or Senna as he is being now by young Rosberg.
JCL - yeah right and his wins at Benneton were just a stroke of luck and all the other drivers were rubbish? I am no fan of Schumacher but you have to give him some credit, he even finished higher in F1 than Senna in 1992
If he is still around next season (yes I know he has a 3 year contract but only he really knows if he can still be competitive) then I think it will be a very different scenario once he has developed the car to suit himself. A few years out of F1 is a long time and maybe he is too old but he is still faster (9th at the moment) than the majority of drivers out there. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next races.
Elfinsafety asking someone to "change the record" is the funniest and most ironic thing I've read on here for ages 🙂
For a rather better informed view on how the race was won:

Summary: Ferrari were quicker so it didn't really matter what McLaren/Button did, they were always going to lose the place to Alonso.
Rocketdog - funny but true 😉
Good result by Alonso though. Back to more like I expect from him.
